I shall mention only two movies, on the assumption that nobody here will recognize either one:
Tom Jones (1963)
Wild Target (2010)
The first (like the two Mamma Mia movies) carries no social message whatsoever: it is just plain fun; the second (which incorporates some of the cast of Love, Actually) has some very polished acting by Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Martin Freeman, and Rupert Grint, and is — I guarantee it — the best movie you never have heard of before.

I would like to bring your attention to Babylon Berlin, an astonishing tv series co written and directed by Tom Tykwer.
A crime story in Berlin of the twenties/thirties based on the political situation of the time, great soundtrack and sceneries.
Maybe be best in German language (with subtitles), but there is an English Netflix version, too.
