So, I just did a measurement with calipers and a little math...

My Fougere appears to be .15 cm from the rim, and I guestimate I've used it 12 times.

That means, for every centimeter of product, I would get 80 shaves.

Well, I also measured the depth of the jar, which appears to be 4.75 from the rim to the bottom...

That means, for one entire jar of soap, I would get 380 shaves ( = 4.75 x 80) .

This just can't be right.

------------------------

Let's start over with different assumptions.

Let's say I've only used the jar 7 times...
and let's say the soap is .25 cm from the rim.

That would mean 28 shaves per centimeter of soap.

Which would mean 133 shaves for the whole jar ( = 4.75 x 28).

That is still A LOT of shaves.

-------------------------

Finally, let me also say that I load MdC for probably 30 seconds or thereabouts... I do not only do 7 twirls like I read about sometimes.
-------------------------

Has anyone finished a jar and counted shaves?

Many people do say that one jar will last longer than a year.

Try it with a chubby 2/3 - that might make finishing a jar easier Smile

A friend of mine is using exclusively 2 different MdC (original and fougere) all year long, nothing else. After a year of shaving on those two jar, he has still a little over a half left in each jar.

So based on that, your math seems right!

I am about to buy one, maybe I can have a log of the shave I am doing with it!

Soaps start off  as if you are using very little. However, they seem to dissapear progressively faster as you use them, especially every day or two you use the same soap.

I have finished a brain bowl of the original scent and and a glass jar of fouguere.  I used probably half an inch of rose scented soap before I passed it on to a friend.

And how much time did it took you to finish these?

I would add that the original and fougere scents are noticeably firmer than the more recent scent additions, presumably due to longer cure time.

It's hard to say how long it took me to finish the brain bowl because It was part of a rotation.  It probably took me 4-5 months to finish the fougere shaving 5-7 days a week.  In my experience you start off using very little MdC, or most soaps really, and as you use it more and more the rate of soap consumption increases.  I think this is true if you are using the same soap everyday for any soap.  I believe that this is because the soap absorbs water and the volume increases.  After a certain point it you start to use a greater volume of soap but you don't add as much water to dial in the lather.

A gentleman on another forum - years ago - used a jar of MdC exclusively every day and it took him just over 1 year to finish the jar. Something like 420 days.

Another forum did the MdC challenge and guys were finishing a jar in 90 days.  It really is a case of YMMV.  For what it's worth my smallest brush has a 26mm diameter.

This kind of threat is mostly on the YMMV side.
I've a friend who finishes hard soaps way faster than I can finish english soft creams.
Just about counting shaves, not time.

BTW,  this is a little test.

So, do not attempt Meissner Tremonia or Saponificio Varesino.

I know it's a different scent, but does the original smell as good as the Fougere?

I finished one in about 4 months used 7 days per week. Will never do it again...killed all desire to rebuy the soap. The scent drove me crazy after about a month. As some have said, even leaving it open, it gets softer with each use as water is absorbed.I use fairly large silvertips so YMMV

I keep selling or give them away before I even get to the half way point.  I eventually buy another one and repeat the insanity.
