It's been an every day shave for me since I started working real jobs where grooming is rather important. Now that I've been retired for a few years and still shaving every day, I recently asked myself "why every day?". Of course, I enjoy the time and the simple relaxing routine. But lately I've been slowing down a bit. I'm considering (at least for a little while) going to shaving every other day. What are your thoughts and experiences?

I shave about every 1-1/2 days, you will get a better shave by going to every other day.

Agreed.
Work necessitates daily shaving for me, however I find that my shave results are much 'cleaner' and more 'smooth' when done every 2 days.

That's the way I started after retirement.  After several years of every other day, it went to two or three times a week.  And, for the past year it was shave on Sunday.  For the past month it has just been trim the edges once a week as I am in the process of growing a full beard.

So Gary, that's why they call it retirement.  Do what you want to do, when you want to do it.

Yes to the above comments. Shaves happen daily because of work, and they’re always enjoyable. However, I do get “better” shaves (i.e., closer and more comfortable) when I skip a day or two. Then, my skin feels more able to withstand the rigors of the razor sharp steel.

I say do whatever makes you happy.  How often I shave varies from week to week.  Some weeks I shave everyday, some weeks every other day or even every three or four day.

Shave, shower, and coffee are part of my "feel good about myself" morning routine.

A working person shaves everyday because they want to look good even if stretched for time in the morning.
A retired person shaves everyday because they want to look good and plenty of time in the morning.

I, personally, like going extreme BBS with an aggressive razor and then getting an extra day out of the shave so that I'm only shaving every other day. I get better results like that. However, I'm not some corporate officer that needs daily suit and tie. If I get that extreme, UBER BBS, than it's not showing regrowth until the middle of the 2nd day. It's all good and still highly presentable, especially as a secondary junior high teacher.

I believe I'd change my shaving strategy if I had to shave every day. I'd go light..... 3 pass (wtg, xtg, xtg) and then leave the BBS for the weekends. That might work for me???

Maybe for 1 week I'll go that direction, for fun.

I enjoy shaving every day.  I shave on weekends, even though I'm not working.  I shave when I'm on vacation.  I expect to continue shaving every day for all my life.

Like everything else try it for a week and see if unlike it! There's so many variables in shaving that you need to try things for yourself!

My work demands daily shaves. That's how it has been for last many years now.

However, during the weekend off days I try to skip a day or two, just allowing my skin to recuperate from the trauma of daily shaving.

I agree with all those who say shaving every other day is more fun...but got 2 long decades before I retire and have this luxury.

I shave every other day, even if I really ought to shave daily in my line of work... a goatee lets you get away with a bit of scruff I guess Wink

I am used to shaving every day.  I feel slow and lazy if I don't shave.

I agree (but I still shave every day!)
First step to recovery is admitting there's a problem!
