I was capable to get this new shaving soap , which was introduced last month , by Crabtree and Evelyn locally at Tabula Rasa in Salt Lake City.

Well,I already tried the soap (not shaving , just lather testing) and Im afraid it not was I was expecting. But step by step.

Crabtree and Evelyn have introduced a new whole range of products with the West Indian Limes EDT scent : shaving soap with wooden bowl , the shaving soap refill , the shaving creams (two sizes) , the after shave balm ,and of course, the EDT.

The shaving soap with wooden bowl is 22 dollars and the refill is 9 dollars.I must say that if you get the shaving soap with wooden bowl, you are paying 22 dolars for a nice wooden bowl...

Lets check the ingredients of this 100% veggie based shaving soap :

So we can see that its a veggie based soap , with coconut and palm oil and Potassium/Sodium Sterate and a disturbing ingredient : hydrogenated castor oil.As soon as I did read that one, and don't ask me why , as soon as I knew the soap wasn't gonna make a thick lather...and I think I was right.

I go my new shavemac D01 silvertip to work and I did loaded with soap for over a minute :

and this is the lather after over a minute making it on the bowl :

and the final result :

As you can see , the lather is far from being thick, as the lather from the C&E Nomad,Sienna and Sandalwood shaving soaps. It feels very "greasy" and slick , I bet due to the Castor Oil but not much cushion or density.

I have tried to make lather with this soap over 5 times , following what I did applied with the Geo F trumper Eucris soap (which works!) and nothing...what a bummer.

Also the scent is kind of weak since is not there after the first 30 seconds...Its fresh, yes, but simply evaporates.

I haven't shaved with it yet and Im still wondering if Im going to shave with it anytime soon...I doubt it.That lather doesn't give me any confidence.

That's disappointing, but as I'm not into limes unless they are in white rum or tequila, it's not too big a loss. I should go grab a few Sienna refills before some numbnuts decides to add castor oil.

That's too bad. I wonder why this soap would have a different formulation than their other offerings. Of those, which would you recommend?

Sienna and Nomad : light years away in quality than this one.

I even have sent an email to C&E complaining about this new "shaving soap".

Thanks, I've heard great things about both. How does their performance compare to something like AoS shaving soap?

That's disappointing. It's like these companies don't even bother to test their products before releasing them. Shameless really.

I have a C&E store within about 5 minutes of my workplace, but I've only ever smelled their shaving soaps. Truth be told, they all smelt so absolutely repulsive that I couldn't imagine ever using them. This scent sounded much more promising.

The Sienna and Nomad provide a very good shave but the AoS is slightly better (and more expensive too). However I like the scent of Sienna or Nomad over any AoS soap.

What a pity. I have the new lime soap on the way to me.
I love the scent so i'll see how I go with using the soap for shaving. Otherwise, it will be my best smelling bath soap!

Right...

Sounds like what I heard when C&E Sweet Almond Oil soap and cream were discontinued. Also what I heard when C&E Sandalwood cream was discontinued, although they did bring that back. So perhaps there is hope; perhaps, maybe ....

I might be interested in the cream version if the fragrance and performance are good, but it looks like C&E have been going to the same soap-making school as Musgo Real. Blah!

This soap is sub par at least.

I wish I had seen your review before!

I really cannot get it to lather.
An awful product.

But did it get me a very expensive, but nice shaving bowl?
I am afraid not.

The soap bowl seems to last no longer than a couple of weeks. At least, mine is already losing its coat in a couple of weeks after I demoted the soap to bath soap duty.

This has to be my most expensive bath soap ever.
At least the scent is good, so much is true.

A big, big disappointment.
