I had my first shave with Cold River Soap Wroks' Schapenmelk shaving soap. It's made with sheep milk and lanolin. I was thinking of buying a second puck of Mitchell's Wool Fat and happened on CRSW on these very pages here on shavenook.com.
This stuff lathers like crazy! Great lather, nice thickness, and amazing slickness. Needless to say, I had an incredible shave.
It was the Sheep's milk and lanolin ingredients that caught my eye It looked to be in the same ballpark as MWF, so gave it try.
Glad I did.
Plus, a really nice price.
$8.95 for a 3.5 ounce puck.)

Curious how the CRSW scent is.

It is quite a nice soapy smell...same genre as MFW.

Define “soapy.” Powdery, fougere-y, perfume-y?
Yes, I know; just try it...

Shame, because I enjoyed the scent.
I have city water. No water softener set-up. Just city water out of the pipe and Schapenmelk lathers like crazy!
I still have a little bit of MWF left, but once this is gone, I'll probably transfer the Schapenmelk puck to the MWF ceramic bowl.
I'm definitely buying Schapenmelk again.

I have the most incredibly hard water and Schapenmelk is one of the few soaps that lathers easily with no issues. Our old house had a whole system softner so I didn't have many problems with almost any soap. Our new house at present only has the softener at the kitchen. I'm having a whole house system installed soon, the wife wouldn't appreciate shaving at the kitchen sink. plus I'm used to soft treated water.
But anyway, Schapenmelk performs brilliantly in hard water!

I've been using the bath soap since it was first released, and it's excellent. Easy to lather, same light scent as the shaving soap, and leaves the skin soft and moisturized.
Thanks I was just curious if anyone else likes them. I wish they would put more in stock. I'm running low.
To the guy compalining about the shave soap not working in hard water, no issue here! In fact it lathers just as easy as Martin de Candre for me.

I never said it didn't work. I said I didn't like it. Big difference. The lather quality is lacking I find compared to other soaps. Granted, this soap is very low cost.
I felt it was important to note that while this soap is good, it doesn't work for everyone.

Yeah, we know. You have made it abundantly clear on every Schapenmelk thread here (and other places).

OK, OK, OK. I got it. Dissenting opinions and open-discussions are not allowed in this thread. Duly noted.

OK Mr Smartepants here is a dissenting opinion, at least from yours. I would pay 2 times the asking price for this soap any day, it's that good.
Not sure why people feel the need to go and trash a product that they don't like or aren't talented enough to get the full benefit from. If there is a thread about a product I don't care for, I don't bother even reading it much less whining or complaining about it. Life is too short to be a weenie!
