We have been working with the new owners of Vie-Long to produce a limited edition Two Band European White Badger brush for the Shave Nook forum. There will be exactly 100 brushes produced with serial numbers on the butt of the handle (x/100). The prototype brush arrived on Tuesday afternoon and, I thought that I would share a picture with you. The knot is 26mm in diameter with a 52mm loft and the knot is dense with good backbone while not compromising flow through.  The face feel is cloud soft.

Please stay posted as more details are revealed.

Vie Long are making amazing 100% hand made in Spain and this hair is minimally treated (non bleached) and that makes the difference.

Good choice , Phil

I don't know if the hair is treated at all or not but, it looks and feels amazing. The knot construction as well as the quality of the hair is very nice.

I've mostly seen Vielong associated with horse hair brushes, although I've never tried one. I really like to looks of this brush, and if it performs anywhere near the Seomgue LE 2-band, it will be a winner.

"European White Badger"
Does that mean what I think it means, i.e. that the badger hair is from wild, hunted European animals, as opposed to from China?

The "European Badger" (also known as the "Eurasian badger" or by its scientific name is "Meles Meles") is a species of badger.  While the species is native to almost all of Europe, it's also found in parts of West Asia (for example, Northern China).  So, by name alone, it does not mean the hair for specific knots originated from the geographic location (of Europe). It's only the common name of the badger variety.

On the other hand, it has been reported in the past that Plisson and Vie-Long obtain their "European Badger" hair from eastern Europe.

The hair is almost certainly from China. I do not think it is possible (I.e. legal) to cultivate badger in Europe.

The 75th Anniversary Vielong had spectacular 2-band hair in it. Just from first initial looks it doesn't look as good as that one, but I don't mean that to dampen any enthusiasm. Looking alone won't tell you everything, and the hair itself in that brush looks quite excellent. I just don't get an initial twinge of wanting upon seeing it, but would love to see it in person if given the chance. As Teiste has stated, the minimal tip treatment is wonderful on the Vielongs. Too many brushes that people promote on the forums I have an almost abject loathing for because of the overly treated tips. Wherever Vielong gets their hair for, it's excellent, and better than any of the ready-to-set knots you can purchase. That's just my opinion.

I’ve got an Epsilon Krion from the ‘Independence Day’ release, the hair in this brush is AWESOME! If I could buy a larger fan shaped knot I would be all over it! Mine is the shorter 50mm loft bulb shape, it’s great but I’d like one a bit larger.

Krion brushes have Shavemac knots. If you like the knot, you can contact Bernd to get a custom the size you want.

Nowadays there's a lot of premium attached to hand tied knots as opposed to ready made knots from China....are VL knots hand tied?
Never used this brand before but the logo design and typography on this LE look very premium indeed.
