I seem to have better shaves on uses 2-5 than the first shave.  I usually discard after 5-7 shaves.

I have been using mostly vintage DE razor blades as of late, and I like to feel how they evolve.

The Personna 74 and Wilkinson Light Brigade blades get better and better through shaves 4-5 until they reach their peak of smoothness, then they plateau...and just remain sharp and smooth through the next 10-20 shaves. They are really something...little metallic miracles!

I have an average beard, not my assessment but my old barber who gave me a few straight shaves. Before that I thought I had a heavy beard. When I was using modern blades the best ones gave me 3 to 5 good shaves. Since switching to vintage blades only  I get 12 to 30 depending.

I used to get multiple shaves from all my blade types, but as I aged my beard got harder to cut and I now get 1 or 2 shaves per blade.  Feather DE and AC blades, Schick injectors and GEM coated SS are the only blades I can shave with.  Sad but true.  Sad

Wait wait wait... I thought we all had dense, heavy, extremely coarse, copper-wire beards that dull even the sharpest blades with a single shave and show a 5-o’clock shadow by 8am. Wink

My point I was trying to subtly make.  How can we judge? We only shave ourselves.

Fie chang gan xie ni!
That's as close as I can get with available key options.
Chinese, Mandarin specifically,  for thank you very much. Or a simple xie xie for a simple thank you.

I tried seeing how far I could go with a feather pro AC in my black hawk V2.

First shave was wonderful. My face was soft and smooth with no irritation.

Second shave was good. Another soft and smooth face with a tiny bit of irritation in my trouble zones.

Third shave, I noticed some tugging with more irritation in the trouble zones.

So one is enough, two at the most, three there is trouble, four my face is ready to roast. (stolen from the martini poem by Dorothy Parker, 1940)
