I am excited to announce that Rocnel and Asylum Shave Works are collaborating on an updated Asylum Rx Artist Club razor. The new razor will be a limited edition and, each razor will be serialized (1 to 105). The design is being modified slightly to tame the shave a bit. It will still be efficient but, there will be less blade feel and less chance of nicking yourself.

Rocnel will be manufacturing the razor utilizing 304 Stainless steel (Certified French 304 Stainless Steel for the Heads and certified Italian 304 Stainless steel for the handles). The 304 Stainless Steel is much harder than 316 or 303 stainless steel and will prove to be more scratch and ding resistant.

We do not yet have a firm ETA but, we are aiming to have them by the fall.

Wow, that’s awesome Phil!! Of course you and Murat have me salivating over this one! How different will the design be? Same form factor or totally different than the Asylum Rx!!

The changes will be subtle. The style will be the same but the comfort of the shave will be improved. I think you will really like it.

Murat started working on the prototypes today.

Why only make a 105? Make enough for most of us to be able to grab on. They probably sale out in 15 minutes.

Are you doing the same handle or some differences to that?

Larger runs are too risky and very expensive. This way, the design can evolve over time.

The plan (right now at least) is for the handle to be similar.

Yeah I understand you tie up a good bit of money but you know 200 people will buy them. Probably more.

It is really hard to gauge demand these days. I’d rather play it conservatively and have too few and sell out quickly than too many and have them gather dust on the shelf. This allows us to remain nimble.

This sounds like a worthwhile Asylum venture, Phil. I’m sure it will be successful.

304 is an interesting choice... not a bad one by any means, just interesting as an alloy Tongue

It's a austenitic chromium-nickel steel, and as far as I can tell it's easier to machine than some of the other austenitic steels out there. Good corrosion resistance too, meaning this razor should last a lifetime with a little care Biggrin

Really looking forward to hearing more details on this collaboration Smile

Thanks guys. I also emailed Murat the files for the injector version of the razor and that may be something that we release in 2020.
