So I received these two beautiful brushes made by Rudy Vey for me, and the knots are from Shavemac.

left: D01 2 band - Fan - 28/56 mm - Red Corral - Chubby Handle
right: D01 3 band - Bulb - 28/54 mm - Briar - Chubby Handle

First of I have to say that working with Rudy was beyond anything I had imagined, he is very knowledgeable , patient! (I ask a lot of questions and he is an encyclopedia on brushes), communicative and the knots are pretty amazing.

I tried them today (half face each) and these were my findings (note that I love dense brushes that have great backbone)

The 2 band is super dense, not scritchy at all and has a very good backbone but a great scrub. I'd say it's probably up-par if not more dense/backbone than my B7 Declaration I received about 2 months ago. Reminds me of the Chubby 3 Manchurian/Chubby 2 Band Silvertip from Simpson which I have and probably a little bit denser than both. It lathered soap quite nicely with great flow. I am very impressed by this knot and I am glad I ordered it in fan as I think in bulb it probably would have been slightly scritchy (thanks to Rudy & people here who recommended getting it in fan)

The 3 band has a great backbone/density and soft tips, reminds me of my Chubby 3 Super but better backbone on this one. Great at lathering soap and great flow. If you like more backbone, definitely go with the 2Band.

The handles are both Chubby style which I love (since 28mm , like a Chubby 2 from Simpson)

Overall they are great brushes/knots and I couldn't be any happier.

Rudy is a true talent. Well done.

I'm surprised the D01 on the left is a "fan." The fans I have from Declaration, Paladin, Brad Sears, Morris & Forndran, etc. are much more a "flat-top" style (even though the term some of these vendors use is "hybrid"). That D01 looks very much like a bulb. Is there a more fan-like knot available in the D01?

I asked Rudy and he said the D01-2 is a fan and 3-band is a bulb and told me Shavemac's fans are a bit more rounded and even more than what is shown on their own configurator page. Also as I am using it, they're opening up and the D01-2 band is definitely a fan. Cheers!

Very nice review, and I agree with your comparison of the knots to Simpson Manchurian and Super knots. While I probably prefer my Shavemac 2-band Silvertips, I do enjoy the D01 2-band for it's backbone and super dense knot, and my D01 3-bands for a little more flexibility but with the D01 backbone. I'm sure that you are really enjoying those beautiful brushes. Congratulations.

Thank you! Just curious what dimensions are your Shavemacs and whether you went for fan or bulb shapes ?

Since I have used the D01 2 band for a little bit I think I actually could have ordered it in bulb as well in 28/56

You mean a regular picture when wet or with lather or just dry & standing ?

Congratulations on two excellent brushes.  A Rudy Vey handle with a Shavemac knot is a great choice.

I see your D01 2 Band as a hybrid knot.  Regardless, your 28mm  knot and 56m loft are a good combination.  I find that a D01 2 Band in a bulb knot set to a low loft has too much backbone and scritch.

Thanks! Congrats they look like great brushes. Sorry for not specifying I was wanting to see how they opened up. Great comparison pics next to the chubbies

Very nice brushes.  In my humble opinion, the Shavemac knots are among the best on the market.  Enjoy. Thumbup
