So I was rooting around through some stuff and came across a couple of Gillette Long Comb NEWs I had forgotten about.
Both are in pretty good shape, with the 'old type' handles, no cracks and straight teeth.
I have a few of these razors, but the one on the left is the common finish on these - a bright yellow/gold plating.
The one on the right appears to be finished darker, more copper in tone, and feels much smoother in hand.
The finish seems uniform, so I'm inclined to believe it's not just patina or tarnish - but I suppose that is something to consider as well.
Anyone else come across a NEW with a finish like this one on the right? Any guesses on what this finish might be?

I won't be surprised if it's just different levels of tarnish.
These clean up really well.
An overnight soak in acetone (nail polish remover) will make most of the grunge
fall off.
Then Brasso and a some elbow grease and voila! It will pop.
Finish off with a coat of renaissance wax and good to go.

valet -
Maybe that's it - the gold plating is just missing. It looks like it never had it - I would assume that given the handle knurling and the ball end, if there
ever were any, some would remain there.
I kind of like the look of it as-is, so I'll just clean it up a bit.
Thanks

I concur. One of my prettiest razors is a fat handle long comb with patina.
