Gents,

my dad's gonna turn 70 in August, and I want to gift him a birth year razor. Does, by chance, any of you have a nice 1949 Gillette, you'd be willing to sell? I'd need to have it shipped directly to Razor Emporium if you could do that for me.

Please let me know!

Nice thought - unfortunately, to my knowledge 1949 razors weren't dated - they stopped putting date codes on the razors around 1930 ? and didn't start back up until 1950.  Perhaps someone else knows more than I do and there's an exception .. I know the blades then still bore date codes but no guarantee the blades and razors were made together 70 years ago.

My only thought is that at least according to one source the red & clear styrene case for the Superspeeds debuted in 1949, so an undated Superspeed found in that case is likely the 1949 model ..

Take a look at razoremporium.com for parameters on dating Gillette razors.

I have a couple of razors that may fit the bill.

This super speed could be a 1949 model but I don’t have the case to date it accurately.

This aristocrat was made between 1948-1950 and could be a candidate but you can’t pinpoint exactly the date.
