I have purchased 5 individual knots from Oumo in two purchases all SHD 2 band. The first purchase was nine months ago this was a 26 fan and bulb. The second purchased three months ago was one 26 fan and two 28 fans (Oumo called these knots Hooked tips). I also purchased four brushes recently 26 fan (27 1/2) and bulb and 28 fan (29 1/2) and bulb, all lofts are preset at 47 ½ even though the website states a loft of 50.

Of the first purchase of two knots, I put the 26 (27 1/2) fan into an Envy shave 8 ball handle, the loft is set at 50. This is a nice knot good density and backbone with soft tip presence a little more backbone then the complete fan brushes, both the Envy and the Oumo fan brushes display the same soft tip presence.

The Oumo 26 and 28 bulb brushes have good density with a little more backbone than the fans and display similar soft tip presence as the fan. The tip feel of both the fans and bulbs will get a little softer after 6-8 lathering.

Now when I make a comparison between the Oumo and Maggards SHD 26 and 28 knots with the Maggards set at 48, the Maggards density and backbone are very much the same, the Maggards tips though display a nicer, softer feel.

The second purchase of Oumo knots that they labeled “Hooked Tip” is on a whole other level knot, brush, I have nothing to compare them to. These knots are as distinctive as Simpson's Manchurian, Thater 2 band, meaning you know them when you use them. I put a 26 (27 1/2) and 28 (29 1/2) in handles set at a loft of 50. The compact density of this knot does not display a large spread, the spread is very moderate that gives it a wonderful medium/strong backbone with tips that have a unique tight density presence of Angel's hair, it is of another world, very distinctive.

When I recently purchased the four brushes from Oumo I thought the knots would be the same as the Hooked Tip knots, they weren't, their very nice (as described above) but not the same. As far as the handles are concerned they're ok on the small side. A positive the handle finish gives a nice grip when the handle is wet or soapy.

Maggard is sold out of their 24 and 26mm SHD Fan knots and they are saying that there is a shortage of the hair worldwide. They placed an order in April and are still waiting. The problem for me is that I use those knots for all of the handles that I get from various artisans now. I have not seen a knot that measures up to it other than Declaration Grooming and his knots are not for sale individually. Elite Razors knots are outstanding but not as good as the Maggard’s.

Of course they are for sale individually, you just send him the empty handle.

A little birdy told me that this is where Maggard is ordering their SHD knots from here. Interesting! I just order 2 24mm and 2 26mm. They are now out of 26mm. I’m interested to know if these are similar to the last batch that Maggard got with the larger glue bump or from a different batch. Let the games begin.

The SHD knots that y'all are buying are the 'SHD finest two-band' ones right, not the SHD HMW silvertip or Manchurian finest two-band?

I asked because the Oumo store on Aliexpress currently has a couple different SHD knot listings, and their individual pages aren’t very informative. I didn’t see anything there about hooked tips, so they’ve probably moved on to new/different offerings now.
Unfortunately it looks like a lot of these are sold out now anyways, other than the larger sizes...

I checked with Alina (the representative of Oumobrush) on Aliexpress and she gave me the following explanations:

There are two 2-band offerings at the moment

OUMO BRUSH-Manchuria
  • The best knot that Oumobrush has to offer
  • is also SHD
  • uses a special treatment process that maintains the most hair oil
  • has better hair and gel tips than the "regular" SHD

OUMO BRUSH-SHD
  • also referred to as hand master
  • similar to the Manchuria knot but just a slightly worse offering

However, since the price difference is so small there is almost no reason not to go for the Manchuria knot.

Additionally there is a Silvertip SHD HMW, which is a Super High Density / High Mountain White - 3-band knot.

Are you able to ask her about the glue bump on both of these? The last batch that was sent to Maggard had a larger than normal glue bump which required a step down in size. So the 26mm SHD fits a 28mm brush and a 24mm fits a 26mm Brush. I ordered the last 2 24mm and 26mm SHD Knots. Thinking about ordering a few of the Manchuria SHD knots. I did notice that the Manchuria SHD Knot is a bit shorter than the regular SHD knots.

So the Manchuria brush is also ‘SHD’??
Things get more complicated...

Exactly, there are multiple versions of SHD knots, but based on the pricing there is almost no reason to go for anything other than the Manchuria SHD.

On my 2nd purchase from Oumo i was told me that they had sold out of the batch of hair I had first purchased and at that moment had a limited supply of hair that they called hooked tip knot, which they didn.t think they would be getting in again. So I purchased 3 knots of this hair?

The knots I purchased a few months after my 2nd purchase were in Oumo handles were called Manchuria

By the way, my first package of 2) 24mm and 2) 26mm SHD Finest are out for delivery today. Really hoping that the glue bump issue that Maggard had on their last order is not evident in these so they will fit the normal brush sizes that they are made for. The order for the 2 Manchuria SHD fan knots is still in transit to the United States.
