It is no secret that most of us have favorite products that we'd hate to see them going discontinued. I'm not talking about the newbies that all products seem to be excellent for them and instantly become "new" favorites. I'm mainly talking about those who have a relative experience, have tested a lot of products and after some time found those that work best for them.

I have a large stock of products I enjoy. For example, I have around 50 shaving sticks, 3 Rockwell 6s, a couple of Wolfies, around 2000 blades, a few NIB brushes etc.

How do you feel about having backups? Do you think it makes sense or no? Also, if you do have a stock, how large is it?

I thought about a backup razor but decided on diversity instead. Wished I'd bought backup soaps as some of my favorite soaps are extinct.

Tons of blades.

I was sitting here thinking about this no I don't have any backups, but wait a minute what's the deal I have two  Gibbs razors. I believe sir I do have a backup razor there. The more I thought oh yes I have a backup motherload synthetic knot, in case I come across a nice handle. Well what about the 300 Wizamet razor blades, hmm. So I believe I'm in the category the shoe fit and I'm going to wear it.

Yes. I believe in backups and multiples. About 1,300 blades, 2 dozen different razors including 5 Techs, 2 Evolutions, 2 Red Tips and 2 Type I injectors, 28 brushes and approximately 3 dozen soaps, half of which are no longer available.

It’s in my DNA. My Dad was something of  a hoarder, and I just can’t help myself. Here is my stash of guitar strings.

While I don't have 'spare' razors, brushes or soaps, I have narrowed in on a few blades I stock up on in bulk... it does make sense if there is a product you cannot imagine ever being without, but to me diversity and variation is part of what makes shaving enjoyable.

Lol, yep you got that going on, looks like a nice stash ( and not one that you trim with a razor.

While I do have one backup tub of three different soaps, overall I'm of the philosophy that one should alleviate the moment and not great onto something so trivial. There will always be more favorite soaps/aftershaves, and one should appreciate the memories. Maybe things will change in time!

Yes, definitely backups of my favorites. I actually came across a bottle of Floid Blue over the weekend that I forgot that I had. Hoarding pays off.

I have backups of vintage soaps and aftershaves, but I'm limited somewhat by the space I am allowed in our apartment.

I have backups of some creams that I bought early on and thought I would go through them much faster than I have.  And some are creams that are readily available and aren't all that favored in my expanding den.  For instance I bought full tubes of the three Proraso regular creams as well as a tube of C.O. Bigelow cream.  I rarely use them now.  I did buy a back up to my now favorite razor, the Gillette New Deluxe.  After using lots and lots of razors I've found it to give me the best shaves consistently.  And they are fairly hard to find.  So I bought a backup.  Glad I did.  But generally I don't have backups and am no longer obsessed with backups as there are so many great products available.

I think I missed the boat on that stuff.  I went looking online for some but to no avail.  No one selling on the bay.

Yes. Of course. Back-ups are mandatory if you greatly enjoy what you are using.

Too many DE razors.
Much too many Wizamet Iridium Super blades, Mystic Water soaps and 2-Band brushes, along with a few Simpsons' Chubby 2 synthetics.
I'll never run out of unrefined shea butter as that is always continuously being produced, thank goodness. Smile

If CRSW, Mike’s, SV, or Wholly Kaw ever decide to hang up the gloves... I’ll be investing in a lot of backups! Smile

Backups - Yes - They don't make the Mongoose anymore and I have spares. Blades - far too many but I no longer buy blades. This new shaving "revolution" is likely not forever, unless carts are outlawed for not being green, so I recommend you get what you want.

Life is too short for me to worry about backups. Enjoy it, if/when it's gone then time to enjoy something else Smile

Yes, I agree with the sentiment...

But this is probably a healthier attitude.

I can't see any reason that this would be true. You might as well say that the "disposable era" is over and it's not coming back. After all, the reign of disposable products has only been going on in earnest since the 1970's, seems more likely that this was the anomaly. Today, as environmental concerns push people towards sustainability they also (re-)discover the joys of quality over quantity and "convenience".

I think the hobby is safe, no reason to panic. It's the cart-enthusiasts that should stock up.
