Always liked Bay Rum when I was younger. I need suggestions on a Bay Rum that is a good aftershave but that is overpowering.

Thanks

I always recommend Ogallala Bay rum...so far its my favorite. I've heard great things about Kamperts, sold by a member hete, but have yet to try it.

Ogallala is nice. Try their variety pack which has a bunch of different types. Shake before applying.

If you want overpowering, there is always Pinaud Bay Rum which is pretty easy to find and will burn like the fires of hell when applied. Heavy on the clove.

Krampert's Finest as said above, though I wouldn't call it overpowering. Just search the AS forum & you'll find plenty of thoughts on it.

Krampert's is a must try I believe. You can't really compare it to Ogalas or Clubman as far as healing and moisturizing goes it's just not even close.

Pinaud VIBR is the strongest. I have tryed many home made recipes and have finally come up with a gem for myself. I purchase online from ebarbershop.com, 1 bottle of Stephans Bay Rum. I add essential oils to it. 5 drops of Bay Rum extract, 10 drops of Lime Oil and 10 drops of Orange Oil. Shake before using. I also enjoy the Saint Charles Shave Bay Rum splash. Very [b]inexpensive.

While not a traditional Bay Rum by some standards, I still like a good healthy splash of Old Spice - SWMBO does not disagree!

Captain's Choice is a good hearty Bay Rum AS, not overpowering & not too clovey, at least SWMBO does not think I smell like Chrstmas!

I'v tried several Bay Rums: Suavecito, Ogallala, Pinaud, Masters, Black Magic, Col. Conk, and Stephans.

In regards to strongest, longest lasting scent, I have to go with Pinaud's Virgin Island Bay Rum.

The three best bay rums I have found are Krampert's Finest, Dominica, and the bay rum from Charles H. Baldwin & Sons. In my opinion, Krampert's Finest is the best of the three, and the best aftershave I have ever used. Krampert's has a great scent, not overpowering, and has great skincare.

That makes a lot more sense.

Now, you're going to have to take my recommendation for what it is because I don't normally use AS's.

That said, I have been very happy with Krampert's. I was lead on to buy it by this forum, but so far, my only issue is that it stains my sink. Seems like the $14 bottle will last me for six months or so, so it's not expensive either.

I have a bottle of the Krampert's menthol bay rum, and while the menthol is the first "kick," the bay rum settles in after it and it smells nice. The aftershave is awesome; while alcohol-based, it has a lot of moisturizing properties, so you get the toning effects of the alcohol while not drying out the skin.

I had a sample of Captain's Choice and I was very impressed with it too. And I just ordered some of the Gilbert Henry aftershave because its alcohol-free for when it gets cold and dry.

Thanks Lee, that's my next Bay Rum to buy.

Enjoyed your site, one of these days soon I've going to give shaving with a straight razor a try. I have 2 that were my father-in-laws. I may contact you get some info on them.

Thanks again,

Larry

The longest lasting is the Pinuad...

The best smelling is Kramperts Finest Acadian Spice. Both my wife and I agree that there is not a finer bay rum made. Whenever I wear it she says I smell "yummy", that is good enough for me.

I'm not aware of a menthol Bay Rum made by Brian and I'm pretty confident that I've tried most (possibly all) of the formulas that he's made for people other than just himself. If you have either his experimental menthol or his 80 Below, then I'm sure these aren't Bay Rum scents.

Arley, in a previous formulation you would have been literally "yummy"! Winky
