As some of you might recall, I own a vintage khaki kit from the Great War - specifically from 1918 if the serial number on the razor is an indication.
I not just own it, but it is in active use. It lives in my GoBag, so whenever I am on the Go i shave with it... a hundred years and more is no age for a razor, and the single button webbing kit have held up remarkable well too.
Some time ago I was contacted by Ironbeard on twitter (@ SaveYourShave), and told that he was sending me a modern reproduction of the khaki set - he had seen my Shaves Of The Day with it and got interested enough to not only get his own but to make reproductions in modern materials as well. And yesterday there was a padded envelope in my mailbox...
So here it is, both by itself and next to it's older brother:

[Image: 2019-08-24%2B13.57.57.jpg][Image: 2019-08-24%2B13.58.24.jpg][Image: 2019-08-24%2B13.59.06.jpg]
I had to try it both with the Gillette Old Type from my original khaki set, and a modern three piece razor from Yaqi (I don't own many modern three piece razors... so I had to pick the one short handled one I own). The workmanship looks at least as sturdy as the original, the choice of elastic loops instead of fabric means handles and heads of varying sizes can be accommodated with easy.
As luck will have it I'll be travelling a fair bit the next couple of weeks, so I'll be able to give it a good test. Expect a review in the near future.

I'm really looking forward to taking it for a spin... only question remaining is: "should I load it with the Gillette Old, or another razor?"
Choices are admittedly limited, boiling down to another Gillette Old (although newer than the one from my Khaki Kit), a Phillips Philite, and the Yaqi shown in the photo above... the head of my Bakelite Slant is just too thick.

First off, that is a very nice gift.  Second, I want one.  Would be the perfect way to transport a DE razor.

Looks way nicer than my foam-lined Altoids tin, and might actually reduce finding "TSA Inspected" tickets in my checked bag if they can see through the x-ray that it is just a razor.

That is one nice looking piece of shaving luggage
I'm pretty sure I'll end up purchasing one at

I like it - I wonder if the creator can do it in olive like the one it inspired!

AFAIK he gets them done in batches, why not contact him and ask? Personally I would love a version done in the Norwegian camouflage pattern, but I realise the potential marked for those would be... limited Tongue

It's beautiful.  Maybe a vintage three piece Gillete Tech from the 60's, the travel Tech has a short handle. I like the razor, I have two from the 1930s. the head is quite the same. I use it mainly for travel with an Astra Green, because I prefer straights.

I like that camouflage pattern. I don’t think the market would be limited.

I used mine on a trip I just got through with.  My Feather ASD2 was a perfect fit.

Are the elastic straps tight enough to hold each piece of the head separately? I’m thinking that would keep the TSA from having to handle my razor because it would be easy to tell that there isn’t a blade in it.
