No matter what you call it, no matter who you are, no matter if you've served (or are still serving)... 11/11 is a day worth keeping in mind. The horrors of the Great War and all wars before or since, the sacrifice of those who laid down their life, the equally great sacrifice of those who survived but were never the same... and for their families who stayed at home.

For my friends in the US, enjoy your time off.

On this day I always think of my father and uncle, both of whom are long gone and thank them for what they did.  Both volunteered for active duty September 1939; my father in the infantry and latterly the armoured corp and my uncle as a fighter pilot.  My father served in NW Europe, including D-Day, and my uncle as a Hurricane pilot in England.  They were discharged in January 1946.  Despite seeing much action they survived unscathed, but never spoke much about their +6 years of service.

Thank them for their service and for all they have given to allow us freedom.
