Today I used Rapira Platinum Lux for the first time. Noticed this -- "Do not wipe blade". Why? Does wiping the blade remove the coating?

I think they used to write this because the towel used to wipe can easily damage the edge of the blade. I might be wrong, but I have read that elsewhere!

It may just be a safety issue.  I place my rinsed blade on a tissue or paper towel and blot it with another.

Is there a teflon coating?

Probably not; the coating allegedly is platinum (hence the name), which is not an exceptionally soft metal.  That said, I have not tried any blade that has a shorter service life than the Rapira Platinum Lux.  I have tried only one package, but three of the four blades that I have used have given me only one shave per blade, and the fourth barely stumbled across the finish line on a second shave, before pulling and tugging.   In comparison, I typically get six shaves from a KAI blade, and four or five from a Rapira Swedish SuperSteel.

Yep, I always thought they didn't want you to cut yourself.

I'll have to go through my browsing history to find it again but I was looking at an official"Gillette history" site and it said blade coatings were developed to extend blade life, at least originally  so I doubt they come off easily.

The only Rapira I found usable were the Swedish Super Steels,  and they were surprisingly good.
