I have never seen strawberries so ripe and red...they were delicious!  Kids loved em!

Years ago I lived on Washington's Vashon Island, where strawberries have been grown commercially since the 1890s and where in mid-July every year there is a big strawberry festival.  We grew strawberries in our own quarter-acre garden, but for the very best ones we picked them in the 1970s in the fields of the Japanese farmers, who seemed to have a magic touch for growing them huge, sweet, and juicy.

I live in Miami, and just to the south of us is a large agricultural area which grows, among other crops, strawberries.

Florida's strawberry season is from December to March.  During that season we have local strawberries available.  The local farms have a U-Pick-Em period, where you go out to the fields and pick strawberries right off the plants.

I’m in upstate New York, just south of Albany. When they’re in-season, my wife and I go to a “you pick ‘em” strawberry farm down in the Schoharie Valley and spend a couple early hours picking. One time, on the way home, we stopped at a convenience store and bought a box of mini plain donuts. As we drove through the beautiful countryside, we had a “rolling picnic” with the doughnuts and fresh strawberries. That was a good day!

That does sound like a great day! We should all be so lucky to have a few like this!
