Started with the DE, brush & soap last month.  But have used a pivot head cartridge razor for over 30 years.  Even back then I used some wet shave techniques in my prep.  Dad used a DE and watching him as a kid, some of his routine stuck with me.

When I made my mind up last year  to ditch the cartridge razor, I started researching in earnest.  Sometime around the fall.  I really like the whole thing.

Welcome aboard !

Not all of us here have ditched the carts.

I DE shaved from 2011 and on until 2016, where I sold all my DE razors and went back to Fusion 5 and Mach 3.

I found with my new DE technique and better understanding of stropping a blade (use my thumb for this) a Fusion 5 & Mach 3 cart provide me with wonderful shaves day in and day out.

I used to toss my Fusion 5 after 5-7 shaves, but thumb stropping the cart several times during a shave and cleaning it properly after my shave means, that I now can use each Fusion 5 cart 20-25 times and get great shaves. My better technique, adopted from using a DE razor, has helped me here also.

The other day I had to remove 7 days of stubble. This used to be very painful.
But using the proper prep, proper technique and a shaving soap with a stable lather (first pass on 7 days stubble takes 10 minutes, so I need a well hydrated lather that doesn’t dissolve on my skin), that’s not too thick and tallow like nor too thin and snowflake like (Martin de Candre in this case), I got an excellent shave. In the old days removing 7 days of stubble would be a nightmare for me.

I haven't ditched my cart.  It's a Schick.  Sturdy and the handle feels good.  I'll probably use it as a travel razor.  My wife said something about using it for her shave duties.  I'm thinking I should move it down the hall to my shave den.  I do want to try it using the brush & soap though.  I'm guessing that would be a big improvement over the canned gel.
