Customers frequently ask me about the difference between the three currently available Mergress models. I figured it is worth a short post.

From left to right is the Mergress XL, The Long Handled Mergress and the Standard Mergress.

The Mergress XL measures approximately 105mm in total length. It is based on the short-handled Progress and has a longer stainless steel adjustment knob. Because of the longer knob, it is a bit bottom heavy and is the heaviest of the Mergress razors at 125g.

The Long-Handled Mergress is based on the long-handled Progress.  It also measures 105mm in total length but, it has a smaller stainless steel adjustment knob and a longer handle. It weighs in at 113g

The Standard Mergress is based on the short-handled Progress. It has a smaller stainless steel adjustment knob and measures 90mm in total length and weighs in at 104g.

No mater which Mergress model you choose, they all have that Eric (Mer) Maier magic.

Thank you Billy. I agree that they are all fine shavers. Its hard to believe that they have been around for over ten years now.

Phil, is only the knob SS or the complete razor is SS too. The razor looks pretty much like Merkur Progress (zamac) to me but I could be wrong.

Jags, AFAIK all the Megress razors are built on Progress 'donors', that are tuned up. I have one (thank you Phil), and the mechanism is very smooth indeed.

I believe only the knob is SS. However, the adjustment is smooth and any sort of blade alignment issues that sometimes occur with a stock Progress are completely resolved.

This is correct. We had also done a run with bronze knobs but, these too used Progress donors.
