My 28mm 2 band arrived yesterday from TGN so I temporarily set it in a large M7 style handle I made. The loft was about 57/58mm and hole size a hair larger. I took it for a shave this morning. It seemed huge, I've been using a Semogue 1800 lately. One of my all time favorite brushes was a 28 mm 2 band set at 58mm. This knot seems less dense and a little less backbone but all in all the brush performed fine.
Last nite I turned a 30mm in a Mad Dog 20/20 wine color to try with the same knot and drilled it deeper just in case the knot got pretty short. I didn't want to lose proportion between the knot and handle. So tomorrow, I'll have an oversized hole and a loft around 52mm. We'll see what happens but I'm guessing 52mm will be pretty close to what I'm looking for.

Both handles look wonderful.

I agree with shortening the loft.

I shaved with it at 52mm, much better. I used a cream today, so I'll try it with a soap tomorrow before I make up my mind for sure.

I'll oversize the hole some but it'll be glued at 52mm.

Those are both very nice handles, I like the MD 20/20 color the best. What kind of lathe do you use to turn your handles?

Is that a wood lathe or metal lathe?

I guess it would matter how you use the metal lathe. Wood lathe you would be using hand held tools, not necessarily the case with a metal lathe.
