What do you think?
Does using a pre-shave improve the performance?
Do you get a better shave by using a pre-shave oil, gel, balm, soap, etc??

I voted no.  Washing my face with regular soap, then rinsing with a lot of hot water, works best for me.

I’ve tried the Proraso pre/post product extensively. I don’t see any difference in shave quality (+/-), but I face lather for up to five minutes which (imo) is really doing the whisker softening. Based on my experience with this one product, for me a pre-shave is unnecessary.

I do not use a pre-shave either. I have tried them but did not realize any benefit.

I've tried multiple pre-shave oils and balms over the years.
For me, they add nothing to overall shave quality.
If anything, they sometimes detract from quality of face lather generated.

I have had this problem with preshave oils as well. Upsetting the artisan's/manufacturer's carefully designed chemical balance will probably lead to a fall in performance.

Like the others above, I've tried them a couple times, separated by several years & just never felt any improvement.  So either I save the money or, more likely, plow it into other software that offers either a better shave or scent.

Voted yes.

Actually, with a great soap pre-shave do not gives better results.
And mostly, no pre-shave cream I know is useful.
But oils, with medium or low quality soaps, help me a lot with my dermatitis.

I tried Proraso and CL preshave butter and felt no noticeable improvement. In fact, I thought it was a worse shave.

However, GD makes a preserve that just kicks ass. I don't use it regularly for maintenance shaves but if I need to break down a few days growth I will.

I wrote off preshaves for a long time. Give GD's a try.

I use a pre-shave every time. Definitely improves my shave.

Occasionally I do use a pre shave oil, which improves things a little.
It helps the skin to glide under the blade better to some degree.[Image: EjiDITj.jpg]

I pre-shave wash my face with Ach Brito glycerin soap. I’m not sure exactly how much it improves the shave, but I think it does and I definitely enjoy the experience.
