Hello Gents,
I’ve been amazed by the performance of my recent purchase of bases from CRSW, GN, Sē’bŭm, and A&E.
This has caused me to wonder if these incredible new formulas have surpassed THE MdC. (A few times I have thought about selling everything but the 4 tubs of MdC and just rotating those great soaps.)
Today I’m beginning a 4 day face lathering rotation of just MdC. Same Chubby 2 brush, same Karve razor w/F plate, same Astra green blade. After revisiting these awe inspiring soaps, I’ll try a couple days of the aforementioned newcomers to my overcrowded pile. (Maybe by then I will have rec’d my Eufros shipment to compare as well?)
I’d love some of your thoughts/experiences on the newer formulation soap bases versus Martin de Candre. Are they really better?
Pete
(Sorry for my opinion, Primo)

I will keep it really simple
It's virtually impossible to beat the in-shave performance of MDC, there is just no room for improvement.
Post-shave you might find some better, but not by a wide margin. In my experience with MDC, only the Original leaves me slightly dry. All the other MDC soaps are better, definitely no dryness or issues.
good lather has no suds

I enjoy the red Sē’bŭm and the Tonka Bean Pearl Jam. Made by the same guy. Both are a PITA to lather and even more difficult to face lather. Nevertheless, both are great soaps once you master the lathering.

Are they really better?
When I buy It, I know I'll have great mechanics, outstanding scent and incredible yield.
But I'll need something to help the skin conditioning, because of my dermatitis.
People with no skin issues can find it more than effective.
New formulation works on three levels:
• nourishing
• primary lubrification
• secondary lubrification
BTW, I know very few soaps that works in deep on skin physiology.
Mostly, they've some superhyped fats that just has superficial skill.
And the effectiveness is just mimetic.
Something like this “Superfatting” the MdC.

It's a very fine soap, and one of my favourites. However, I find it a little drying. I super-lather with Meissner Tremonia Puristic Style, and, well, it's perfect. Moisturizing and terrific post-shave feel.
For moisturizing, it's hard to beat Sebum or Antica Barbieria Colla.
For Meissner fans, I heard that they've reduced their soap lines. Puristic no longer available apparently—only in a cream.

Well, I know this is only my anecdotal evidence but my daily shaving logs since 2013 tell me among other things that the best performing soap and cream I've ever used are the long discontinued Yardley and Coates, respectively, but amongst extant choices there are several that rank as best but none of those named. And except for Sebum I've tried all named.
P.S. I'm only rating by performance. With fragrance considered there are, again, many others among my favorite to use.

MDC vs. superfatted soaps?
Different concepts.
You want a soap which brings a lot of oils which will be still on your skin after the shave? Get CRSW or some other of this kind of soap.
I do like CRSW a lot, but this concept will have this soap disappear very, very fast.
Otoh use MDC. I like it a lot, too. Yes, there is a hint of dryness after the shave with MDC.
You still want this moistured feeling? Use a decent balm and be happy ever after.
