Pre shave - Hot Towel, Simpson's Shave Cream
Razor - Muhle '11 R41
Blade - Astra S/P
Brush - New Forest Tubby 1 Finest
Soap - P-160
Cold Rinse/ Witch Hazel/ RazoRock Aftershave Wax

underestimated the R41... a bit of a harsh shave. The Tubby and the P-160 were an excellent combo though...

After using Tabac the last few days it was nice to jump back to Speick. It was also neat to go back to DE after 4 days of SE using a PIF'd Featherweight.

Somerset Simpson Chubby 3 Manchurian (33/60)
Aramis shaving soap (vintage) in an Old Spice mug

Wilkinson London Bridge (1)
Creed Green Irish Tweed aftershave balm

A great shave. Loading the big CH3 with soap in the mug was kind of tricky, requiring me to squeeze the knot together and rotate the brush on its axis, but it worked. The London Bridge is a fantastic blade. And I skipped the balm.

SUNDAY

Hot shower prep
Razor: Silbersteel...Solingen
Soap: Nivea..Hamburg
Mug: Soup cup
Brush: HESS #3..Germany
Aftershock: alum block
Splash: #4711

Another day of gorgeous weather to enjoy! A very simple and pleasant shave was enjoyed. J.S.Bach "Goldberg Variations" is/was playing in the background. Again, everything worked together to make the start of my day a winner.
I find that those brushes I have found that were produced for the trade are quite different than those we use at home. Most of the have 80mm loft and are soft and delicate with little backbone. Perhaps the use of lather machines brought in the use of "paintbrushes."
As I sit here the rest of my morning story plays out. A double Cappuccino of Kenya AA from the Cremina and, again, Bach in the background.

The fun of trying things makes the day go a bit better and quicker!

Shave of the Day (SOTD) Sunday September 30, 2012 (Last Day of Semogue-tember)
Prep: Brush soaking in warm water, face wash with Noxzema Triple Clean, tepid shower
Razor: Cadet Open Comb paired to an Edwin Jagger DE89L Handle
Blade: Shark Super Stainless
Brush: Semogue SOC Cherrywood Boar
Cream: Domino
AS: British Sterling
Post: Cold Water Rinse, Double Splash Of Aftershave

I thought that a fitting way to finish Semogue-tember would be with the SOC, as in my opinion there is not a better Semogue Boar. You can see that the bristles have began to split nicely, it really is a dream brush. For those that use badgers and have not used a good quality boar I would highly recommend this brush.

It has been a while five days since I have used an open comb, so I thought that I would break out the Cadet. After trying various blades with the Cadet head I can now say that my favorite blade in this razor is the Shark Super Stainless, followed closely by the Lord Platinum Plus and then the SuperMax Super Platinum. The Russian blades are too much for this razor, just makes my face feel almost R41 raw.

The Cadet just plows throw the whiskers, I had more reduction in a single pass than I did with the Feather after 35 minutes of shaving. Goes to prove that the cost of a razor has nothing to do with performance.

I am about 2/3 done with this bottle of British Sterling. I am thinking of purchasing every last bottle of it the next time I stop into the store as I never want to be without it. Although some aftershaves provide me with better conditioning, such as the Krampert's Finest, nothing smells as good to my nose as this. I find it classic, refined and complex in it's scent that reminds me of the English and Scottish countryside.

-- Sunday--

Prep: hot water wash with hand soap
Razor: Vintage Merkur Progress (set to 2.5-ish)
Blade: 7 O'clock yellow (2)
Brush: Simpson Commodore X1B
Soap: 3P Italian almond soap
Post: Thai Crystal deodorant stick and JASON Witch Vera lotion

Result: BBS on face, DFS on neck in 3 passes. I have tried the second blade in new-to-me Progress. I started with Astra SP as a baseline and today's shave with 7 O'clock yellow (with one shave on it from a previous shave with New SC) was superlative. Just effortless, drama-less and super close on the face and neck I decided to not try for BBS for a while and do an extra XTG pass instead of ATG. Neck skin is healing and just can't take BBS every day. I'd rather have a DFS on neck than have it look like lobster. That was good decision and I ended up with a wonderful comfortable enjoyable shave.

Have a good week, everyone.
