I tried a new vendor today, Gentlemen’s Nod, specifically the Sir Winston soap and aftershave. I will tell you with the utmost sincerity that I new favorite soap. I have tried nearly 100 soap over the past 7 or 8 years and Gentleman’s Nod now sits at the top of my favorite list. The lather I produced today was like yogurt, slick and maximum cushion. The glide of my Carbon razor (with a Feather blade to boot) through the soap left a BBS shave with zero weepers. The post shave feel was extraordinary! In addition, the aftershave was just as exceptional!! Great absorption (I hate sticky aftershaves and their formula definitely leaves no residue) and a scent that is second to none (it is a beautiful interpretation of Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet). I am hooked! Please give them a shot if you haven’t done so already.

I have Zinharoff in the Cardinal Base, and it is truly among the elite performers (and smells otherworldly).  Not sure how you snagged that ahead of time, but good for you.  You didnt by chance get a whiff of Sir Arthur also, did you?

Brad, I live in Omaha and contacted Chris and Boyd. They set a side a Sir Arthur and a Sir Winston at their store (The Simple Man) for me. Very nice guys! Boyd and I talked for like an hour. Sir Arthur is a spot on Penhaligon’s Green Fern. I haven’t used it yet but I just got it yesterday. I can let you know after I give it a try but the Cardinal base is head and shoulders above anything out there.

No question, the base is outstanding.  BB has a pine note, is the pine note prominent to your nose in Sir Winston?

I am really awful at describing scents. That being said, I do own Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet cologne and the soap and aftershave are spot on interpretations of the original. Amazing stuff. I put it on 4 hours ago and I can still smell it.

Sorry...We let one set slip a little early in the physical store. Our fault! Online the offering will only be available through BullGoose Shaving. As for the Blenheim fragrance, the original to my nose leans pine over lavender after the opening citrus accord. In the soap, this rendition really puts the lavender and pine on at least an even playing field and possibly leans lavender over the pine. The Splash is possibly closer to the original in that sense. The musk in the base really softens the sharpness of the lemon, lavender, and pine and creates a nice powdery finish that may even exceed the original in complexity. Hope this helps. Really looking forward to the full release!

I believe we honored the originals with the quality of this offering and sincerely hope you all enjoy!

Maybe I've been living under a rock but this soap is new to me. I love trying new soaps so thanks for the heads up. Time to go shopping.

They are worth a try, I sincerely mean that. The Cardinal base is pretty special. Enjoy!

Are these soaps (specifically the tallow Sir Winston) really croaps or a hard milled soap?

They are soft soaps. I am not aware of any artisan soaps that are triple milled...it requires some really expensive equipment.

I had the Sir Arthur set in my basket and then got sticker-shock from the price and closed the browser.
I'll wait for the reviews to come in before I make a decision, although I've been burned by reviews before (Sē’bŭm, Tonka Bean, etc.).

Green Mountain Soaps were an artisan outfit that produced truly triple-milled shave soaps, but I'm not sure they are still making them.

They were a hard soap but, I do not remember any mention of them being triple milled. Saponificio Varesino are triple milled but, I would not consider them to be an artisan due to scale.

They are not. The company was sold and changed physical location. I bought a few of, perhaps even their last, remaining unscented pucks within the last year. The gentleman I spoke with had to go physically look for them before he’d take an order. The only internet retailer I’ve seen recently that had inventory of any of the GMS shave soap flavors was Smallflower.

Now having had the experience of using the GMS shave soap, it’s understandable why it didn’t sustain a following. It’s very finicky and tends to quickly lose stability. Their bath soap on the other hand is outstanding. Both, tallow and vegan, bath bars are Excellent. Highly recommended.

And now, back to Gentlemen’s Nod...
