I admit it : Im a French shaving soap lover guy.I do like them all.Martin de Candre is the Holy Grail of shaving soaps for me,being my fav. one of all : great performer, easy to lather, long lasting, wonderful fresh/spicy lavender scent and all natural
However France has a lot of great shaving soaps to offer : Pre de Provence,Provente Sante,Locitanne Cade,Savon Du Midi,Monsavon...
Most of them are veggie based, and even has shea butter, which its a great ingredient for dry skin.
So,whats your favorite frenchie soap and why?

France is definitely my favourite country when it comes to shaving soaps!
Got to go with Martin de Candre. For me, one of the best soaps (performance-wise) that I've tried.
Scent-wise, Provence Santé Green Tea and L'Occitane are awesome, and the performance is great, too. I also like IK (great performer), Savon di Midi and Monsavon. OSMA soap isn't bad, either.
The only French soap that I didn't like was Lothantique Le Coleccioneur. Great scent, but poor lather.
As for the Creed and Durance soaps, never tried any of them.

Let's not forget Joris/Plisson shave soap. I tend to prefer tallow based shave soaps and often times find the Shea Butter in the French soaps to be a bit too heavy. That said, I do enjoy PdP and Provence Sante Green tea from time to time.
Just to prove again that there is a lot of YMMV in shaving, I did not care for MdC at all and sold my pot within the first week of owning it.

Well, my grandson tells me I'm a little strange, and he might be right. I don't really care for most of the French soaps. There is one British soap I really like, some Italian, and some made in Portugal and Germany, and that's it.
Needless to say, I do not have a large soap inventory like some of you do.

I'm not going to vote because I only have one, Provence Sante, and noexperience with any others. The performance of PS has always been there for me. At first I didn't know if I would like the strong scent, but it grew on me. Now I love the stuff.
One of many soaps that I really like.

Hi Teiste
Any recommendations on where to buy that soap for those of us interested in trying it?
Take care, Mike

There is only one place to buy it online : http://www.shaving-soap.net/
And Planet Rasoir if you are in Paris.

Monsavon...?
Monsavon beats the hell out of Proraso, for example
