I'm going to assume that if you own either of the two brushes, you like big brushes. That said, is the CH3 too much badger?

I like the CH2 and feel that it is a very nice size. However, the CH3 is only $50 more.

Nominal knot size difference is 2 mm.

In direct comparison I prefer the Chubby II (classic in 3-band) over the Chubby III. But my Chubby III (classic in 3-band) gives me a really good feeling and I'll never miss this shaving brush. It's not to large if you love large brushes. Compared to 3-band Chubby II and Chubby III in 2-band appear a little bit smaller.

The Chubby 3 is slightly too big, and the Chubby 1 is too small. The Chubby 2 is the Goldilocks brush, just right.

I have never used a Chubby 3 but I have used the Chubby 2 and I would not want to go any larger.

If you have large hands, the Chubby 3 will be fine.
Just get the 2-Band if you don't enjoy a huge bloom Lightbulb

I would say the Chubby 2 is perfect for me, but I have to own a ButterScotch 2-Band Super Chubby 3 and will get one as soon as I hear back from Mark Wink

We sell a lot of Chubby 3's to guys who just love a big luxury brush - for want of a better phrase, a badger explosion on their face.

I'm at the max with a chubby 2. I think a 3 would cover half my face when lathering so too big for me.

I love my Chubby 3. I have big hands, so the 45mm handle on the Chubby 2 is a bit short for me. Sure, the Chubby 3 is very big and quite a soap hog, but it's an amazing brush.

It's a Chubby II.

I find that I can barely use hard soaps with a Chubby 2; with a Chubby 3 I might as well be repainting the bathroom! I like more of a 22mm knot, so both are too big for me, but if I had to choose, the Chubby 2 is a much better fit. While the "nominal" knot size is only 2mm (although I've seen Chubby 2s listed between 26-28mm knot and Chubby 3s at 30-32), the loft size is definitely different.

To me, it depends on the badger hair that is in the brush. The Chubby 3 Super in 3-band badger has quite a bit of bloom and is a very large brush. I find it to be almost too large. A Chubby 3 Super in 2-band has far less bloom and while a large brush, is not a problem. I think the Chubby 3 in Best will fall in between the two Super grades in bloom. I have personally only liked the Chubby 3 in the 2-band Super.

I have the Chubby 2 in Best and find it to be a fantastic brush. I think the Chubby 3 is just too large, unless you want to use it to paint the family room after shaving!

I have the Chubby 2 Best and Chubby 3 Super...they are two entirely different brushes for sure. I take the Chubby 2 on the road with me, the Chubby 3 stays at home - it's a little too big to get out of the house. Smile

OK, consensus seems to be the ch2. But does one have to try the extra large chubby just to say he's done it?

I love all my Chubbies...I have the 1, 2 and 3 in the different grades ..best, super 2 & 3 band with the exception of the Chubby 3 which is in Best. The 3 is an experience to say the least...I use it a couple times a week when I really want to pamper myself with this beast. However I must say that the Chubby 2...regardless of hair grade is perfect IMO and is the one I reach for the most when I'm home.

If you want Chubby 3, but have doubts about its size - get the Chubby 3 in 2-Band (Special order via Mark at Simpson - but since he's a member here, should not be a huge problem)

2-Band will seem 25% smaller than the 3-Band - because it blooms far less.

Both the Chubby 2 and 3 are large and über luxurious brushes. I agree with most that the CH2 is the perfect size for most wanting to enjoy a large brush. Great handle size, lots of badger hair, but not too much brush for most.

I however, find the Chubby 3 in three band super to be the finest shaving brush ever made, yep that's right! I do realize I am probably one of only a few who feel this way. The CH3 is not for the faint of heart. It places a badger hug a cheek wide and loves to eat your favorite soap much quicker than it's smaller counterparts. Once your wrap your hand around the wide and heavy lathe turned handle, everything else (including the chubby 2) feels small. I voted for "just right" in regards to the Chubby 3.

Here is mine in my smallish hands, and a photo with a few of her siblings.
