This was the “headline” on Fine’s soap page today. “FINE CLASSIC SHAVING SOAP DISCONTINUED.” An email from them confirmed. The below link brings you to a translation page for the actual news story.

Very sad. The quality of the lather is just phenomenal. I hope that he seeks out a new soap manufacturer and continues with the same value of a hard puck that performs so well. We have enough croaps.

I searched around today and found plenty of soaps still available at many of the popular shaving retailers.

Geez that’s sad news. I just pick up three last week as I really enjoy the quality. I will have to make another trip Pasteur

Hi gents,

Dreiring Seifenfabrik, the makers of Fine Soaps, is part of the Kappus group, a big German soap-making company.
Kappus was a big producer - for example, in European supermarkets, a lot of own-brand bath soaps and liquid soaps were produced by them.
They also produced Kappus shaving cream, a classic shave cream sold in many European drugstores.
The whole Kappus group went into bankruptcy, and that is the reason why the Dreiring factory is closing.

Tabac is not made by Dreiring or Kappus, and never was.
Tabac and Irisch Moos creams and soaps are made by Maurer & Wirtz, a subsidiary of the Dalli-Group, a German giant company.
Dalli-Group is one of the biggest European makers of cosmetics and detergents, and it is not related with either Kappus or Dreiring Seifenfabrik whatsoever.

So, as far as my understanding goes, I dare to say that Tabac will not be affected by the downfall of Dreiring and the Kappus Group.
But I'm sure gonna miss Kappus shaving cream, and Kappus-made bath soaps... Sad and the Fine Soaps line, of course, at least while they find another soapmaker.

Thank you, Emanuel. As I read it, the Fine website suggested that their soap was the same base as used by Tabac. I must have misunderstood.

Surprised no one has let out the news...
Mr. Fine's next soaps will be "soft" and made in Italy.

Not everyone will like the change from a triple milled soap to a soft one.

I think the first softie should be called Insanity. the change to soft soap mandated when Mr Fine realized that he was doing the same thing but expecting a different result

Put me in that category. There seem to be very few triple milled soaps compared to the number of soft soaps and croaps. I was fortunate to score four Snake Bite soaps in the last few months. They’re now in the ‘precious’ group along with my stash of Valobra and AoS unscented hard soaps.

I greatly prefer hard soaps, the only soft soap in my rotation of over 20 is Boellis Panama.
