This comes out of an interest in acquiring plexi-handled shaving brushes... and despite my researches, I have been unable to find out how plexi handles are made.

Does anyone have any insight or knowledge?

I’m sure I’m not the only member or guest here who’d be keenly interested to know.

Thanks for any input you might have.

(Gee but it is hot here in Sydney today. 40s celsius. Yikes.)

How about the traditional Plisson and Thater plexi handles?
The ones with the squared off sides.

Shaun, I turn them on a lathe.

So do we.

Those shapes can be achieved by machining with a mill.

I don't know for sure, but would guess some plexiglas (aka "acrylic") handles have been cast.

Seems each lathed example will be different, then. This explains why the two Kent Plexis (P12s) I have from 1998 have discernibly different handles, but only if you look very closely. Interesting.

The plexiglas I use is called "cast acrylic". It's hard stuff and can be machined without melting. Regular plexiglas will melt if sawed etc. Quite a few molded handles out there.

Asking Bernd at Shavemac would probably be the best source of information if he has time to answer the questions. He has had such handles for sale in the past.
