Newbie here. I keep reading about brushes being either bulb or fan shaped, but I can't tell the difference. Is it possible to tell just by looking at them? What are some examples of each?

Too add some verbatim:

Fans have a flatter top, more hair will interact with your face, knot tends to spread more (extreme is a flat top knot)

Bulbs have a more or less pronounced dome/bulb shape giving the knot more stability. Will spread less, less hairs touch the skin.

Bulbs tend to have more backbone. Hence, help to overcome less backbone due to hair.
