I reviewed the Merkur 45 Bakelite several years ago on another forum with positive feedback. Then I sold the bakelite and forgot about it. Well I recently purchased another Merkur 45 razor only without the plastic case so it could be cheap.
This razor is very similar to a Progress head in shape and blade angle. When you load a blade in the 45 it bends just like a Progress and the shave is like a Progress on #3. Extremely smooth and cuts very close without irritation. The turnoff for some might be the extreme light weight (14 grams)with handle. It is very toy like but a fantastic shaver. I fitted mine with a iKon bulldog 11 handle and wow incredible. The price of the razor was $17 with free shipping if the total is over $25 so I added a couple of other items.

Hi Jerry

Would you mind linking to where you picked up that razor for $17? I'm very tempted to get one to try.

Stupid question, is the razor head a "slant"?

Take care, Mike

Edit: Stupid question added.

I think Italian Barber is now selling those NOS Bakelite slants standalone now (i.e. not in a set).

Hi Josh

You're right, Joe is now selling Vintage Bakelite Slant Razor by themselves.

I picked one up when he was only selling them as part of a set, got this set...

Take care, Mike

After mulling this over for several weeks I finally ordered one. Slantman got to have a slant.
