It's been a while since this question's come up for discussion. So, I thought it might be worth raising again.  FWIW, I started out with a 24 mm brush, but soon fell to the siren song of a 30 mm.  A few years later, I fell in love with 28's which has been my preferred size for past seven or eight.  Recently however, I added a 25 mm to my rotation.  And while I still enjoy my 28's, the 25 seems to work just as well as the larger brushes while using less soap.  (Not that I'm cheap or anything. Angel )

So, I'm curious.  What do you prefer?

Most of mine are in the range of 21-23 mm, with two exceptions; a Wilkinson Sword Badger I bought in a Spanish supermarket (19 mm), and an Artisania Romera Manchurian Badger (28ish mm). SO I would say my favorite knot size is about 22mm with a loft of 50mm to 55mm.

I personally like knots to be 22mm thru 26mm.  Bigger and they are too big for my face.

My preferred size is 26mm. Altough I like 24 to 28mm, 26mm seem to be the size I like the must considering the feel and amount of soap it need.

Even if most of my brush are 24, but this is slowly changing recently...

I tend to like bigger brushes but 26 to 28 is the sweet spot. I loft them a bit higher than some though so they act a bit bigger.

Yes. This has been my experience as well. I like to load heavily regardless of the knot size. There’s so much soap down the drain when I use my Chubby 3  Biggrin

Yes, bigger and softer too. Nothing wrong there in my book.

My favorite right now is the Semogue 1438 boar.  It has a loft of 50mm and a 21mm knot.  I like it better than my fatter badgers, mostly because it seems easier to get a lather going with a smaller knot.  And I feel like I have more control over where the lather is going.  With my fat badger, I was getting lather up my nose, in my ears, etc.  Although making a mess was fun (especially while yodeling), it wasn't as efficient as a smaller knot.  For me, anyway.

Me I'm like Brad, up to 26 mm that is.  I started small, then worked my way to 28 mm, which for me was wasteful, in both soap and dollars.  I like 24 to 26 but do have one 28 I kept, and a couple 22s that I've had too long to flog off.  This applies to the badgers only, the other "hair" doesn't fit my norm

Me too.  I've had a couple 28's but find that 26 is my preference.  Though I do like the Chubby 2.

20-24 at the top of the hole.  The loft must be at least twice the diameter for 3-band silver tip and slightly more for 2-band.  For boar, the loft has to be at least 2.5 times the diameter.

28 is my number 1. Those M&F 2xl's and Style 1's I could not live without. I have plenty of 26's and they are also very good. I also have a very nice 27.

20MM × 50MM <~~I only own one brush with that measurement, but it's perfect.

26-28 is probably my favorite size brush.  I have have a few brushes that are larger like a Chubby 2 and a 34 MM M&F that are very nice but they don't see a lot of use.
