I had a terrible shave this morning.
I used my finest soap, a new blade, my just-cleaned razor. And...the shave was awful That hasn't happened in a really long time.
I couldn't figure it out. What did I do wrong?
Then it hit me. I forgot to shower first. I always shower first. I hadn't washed my face, and it was oily. My goodness, as we all know, prep is very important. I hadn't realized how important until this morning. It is absolutely essential.

I've tried a bunch of different pre-shave products over the past year (pre-shave oils and such); none of them seem to work very well. I wrap a hot, wet washcloth over my mouth and chin to warm up my face before shaving. When the hot washcloth starts to cool down a bit, I take it off and splash hot water on my face, then lather up. It makes no difference whether I shower before I shave or after. I guess different stuff works better for some folks, depending upon skin type.

I went many years showering, then shaving. Then one day I figured being that I face lather for a long time anyway, why not switch the order? I think my shaves improved doing it that way.
I'm like you Charlie. I face lather and shave prior to showering. Not only did my shave improve, I don't have any lather residue in my ears when I'm finished.

Phil, It's better for me that way too.

I'm with you guys. I always shave prior. I tried showering first, but didn't see any added benefit to my shave. I also like to shave, shower, than do my post shave routine after I've washed my face again.
