Anyone else that does not care for the new wild card playoff decision games?

First place Texas eliminated last night by the second place Baltimore Orioles. Seems wrong to me, used a first place went on into the playoffs. Second place teams went home till next season.

Should at least let them play best two out of three.

There should still only be 8 teams per league, all concentrated in the East or Midwest, no playoffs, winner of the NL plays winner of AL for World Series, and the season ends in early September. Everything that has come since is heresy.

I disagree as it would unfavorably effect the division winners who would have to sit and lose all momentum.

I am adamantly against the wildcard...teams that do not win their division after playing 162 games should not be in the playoffs at all. They are lucky to get a play-in game and an opportunity at all.

They were both 2nd place teams. Texas blew a 5 game lead in the last 9 games of the season. So it goes.

I cannot stand the new playoff format but then again, I did not care for the previous format as well. I liked it better when there was no wildcard and only two divisions. Just think how much more exciting this pennant race would have been...Oakland would have won the division on the last day of the season and Texas would have been sent packing. The Yankees/Orioles race would have also gone down to the last day of the season for all the marbles. Rather than make things more exciting, the Wildcard has watered things down.

+1...yes the Oakland A's gloriously took first place from Texas. Being that Texas and Baltimore had the same record, I think it was a fair playoff. In the end, it's all about creating more takes and making more money.

For those of you against a playoff system, are you saying you think it should be the Yankees and the A's playing right now to decide who goes to the series? If so, how many games should a single playoff series be, best 3 out of 5 or 4 out of seven.

I like the prior format - 3 divisional winners and 1 wildcard. Good balance to reward the winners of a division yet gives another team a chance to sneak in as well. The one and out is a bit harsh. Of course it's all about drama and trying to seek ratings and the popularity of the NFL.

I like the version previous to this...two divisions in each league, balanced schedules, and no interleague play. The current system is not fair at all...mainly because the teams vying for the wildcards are not playing the same schedule.

Playoff series should be 7 games but it should only be two rounds...the league championship series and the world series.

I am not against a playoff system...just the wildcard. A playoff series should be best of 7.

This idea of a one game play in is just plain stupid. MLB should redistribute the teams into 4 divisions (like the NFL) and have NO wild card teams at all. If a team cannot win their division after 162 regular season games (sometimes 163 if there is a tie) they have no business in the playoffs.

I hate the number of teams who get into the playoffs in the NBA and NHL as well. I will make an exception for the NFL due to the low number of regular season games played; but there is no excuse for needing a play in game to the playoffs after you have played 162 games already. It's done. It's decided. Get on with the playoffs.

I would eliminate the wild card.

I stand corrected about Texas being in 2nd place.

Me too...it would solve a lot of the problems. I understand the thinking that was behind the wildcard (keeping additional markets engaged for a longer period) but...it screws everything up. Due to the incredibly long season (162 games), the sorting process should be complete.

Yes I think Francona will be a great manager, but unfortunately for next year that probably won't make much of a difference given the talent (or lack thereof) the Tribe has at 1st, 3rd, and left field!

Most teams say wait until next year. Here in Ctown we say wait until the year after next year!
