Tabac has been using the same formula for their shaving soap since 1959. Some genius in accounting decided to change the formula in 2021 and, they have dropped the tallow. We still have around 20 of the milk jars with the old tallow formula. Grab it while you still can. Buy Here.

It's unfortunate that another classic tallow soap has been reformulated. This is an excellent soap. I ordered one from BullGoose to save for future use. It's triple milled, so it will last.
There is confusion in the market because the reformulated non-tallow version is still called "Original." One should only purchase from a trusted vendor after confirming that it's the discontinued tallow version which is being sold. The version I just received from BullGoose is the real stuff.

Ricardo, I'm not really sure, but I think Tabac Original is the name of the fragrance.

Pedro, I agree that Tabac Original refers to the fragrance. That is why the Tabac Original title appears on the entire line of products. The reformulated soap apparently retains that fragrance. My concern was that someone who does not know this might buy the reformulated soap assuming it was the original tallow version.

Wished you had the refill available, I have the glass holder and a spare but sure would like another soap.
Yes, it would be nice to stash away a few of the refills. However, I didn't mind ending up with an extra ceramic bowl just to get another of the discontinued tallow soaps.

Thanks for the heads-up. I too have a bowl but couldn't pass on getting a puck of the "original". Tabac is one of my all time favorites.
Hi Phil,
AFAIK, the Tabac shaving soap was made by Dalli-Group, a giant German company, one of the biggest European producers of personal care and home care products.
However, the soap base for making Tabac shaving soap was made and provided by a German factory called Dreiring, part of the Kappus group.
The whole Kappus group filed for bankruptcy in September 2018, and the final end came to Dreiring around September 2020.

So, no soap base, no shave soap.
They really didn't wanna reformulate the product, but they were forced to change because of the demise of their previous provider.

Thank you for the insight Emanuel. That is a shame...its similar to what happened to the Czech & Speake soap.

Have you had a chance to try the new Tabac soap? If so, is it any good?
