I have only these 2 soaps and been using them on alternative days. The MWF is about quarter of the price of SV soaps.
Both lather almost instantly and face lather superbly. Both give a close comfortable shave and leave skin feeling good.
What is different, is SV has a much more silky feel as you lather your face. Plus, it has a definite scent whereas MWF is a faint soapy scent.
If I had to choose one, to use every day, it woukd have to be SV, purely on account of that silky smooth feel as you face lather. However it IS Four times the price, so it should feel a bit more luxurious in use.

I have very hard water and MWF lather instantly. . I'm very puzzled why some find it difficult to lather.
The lathering issue with MWF is perplexing. When I read about a soap not lathering, I assume it's the hard water. However, with MWF some guys with hard water get good lather and some guys with soft water don't.

Agreed. SV soaps last a very long time and the cost per shave ends up being comparable to lower priced soaps.

Mitchell's Wool Fat will lather pretty easily - I find that using a brush with more 'flow through' makes it respond better in my medium-hard water than using a tightly packed knot.
I use it fairly often, so I have the ceramic dish which also provides a bit of room to get things started - I do not bloom it, just use a wet badger or boar - slightly more wet than for other soaps.
