Shave
Experiment
Experiment more
Enjoy the moment
Keep experimenting
Your mileage may vary
Find what works for you
Find what don’t work for you
Try a new soap, blade, brush, or razor
Make many mistakes, and learn from them
High end and bargain bin can be just as good
New razors can be great – so can vintage ones
Embrace your Acquisition Disorders, within reason
Try your very first soap, blade, brush, or razor again
A shave can be a moment of Zen and a mental recharge
Shaving is most enjoyable when it is about the process, not the goal

If I may, I’d also add the following practical (and geometric) advice.
Try cold water shaves.
Use a fresh, sharp blade.
Shave with “negative” pressure.
Use aftershave to close your pores and disinfect.
Face lathering preps your whiskers better than bowl lathering.
Unrefined organic Shea butter as appropriate during cold and dry months.

Growth
Research
Purchases
Pastey lather
Hydrate lather
Technique trials
Mapping of beard
Lightening of touch
Technique improving
Skin rashes disappear
Confidence in approach
Belief this is a better way
Former chore pivots to fun
Curiosity leads rabbit holes
Desire for new soaps grows
Desire for other razors grows
Desire for more brushes grows
New gear overtakes prior setup
Think modern is beating vintage
Think single edge might beat DE
Think that I can actually use a str8
Straight razors turn into blood sport
You persist with straights and like ‘em
You buy nice rock collection for honing
You never hone, but want a perfect edge
You become entranced by form and design.
Repeat…
“So much style without substance
So much stuff without style
It's hard to recognize the real thing
It comes along once in a while
Like a rare and precious metal beneath a ton of rock
It takes some time and trouble to separate from the stock”
