I bought some Proraso red, sandalwood aftershave and noticed that it’s for “barbe dure” (coarse beards). My beard is anything but coarse. Will it possibly be too oily for my skin?I love Proraso green aftershave and Proraso products in general.

Give it a try and don't believe everything you read.
You might think it rocks!

+3 - I've used it for some time, and haven't noticed any oiliness, summer or winter.

Now I'll have to go order some red. So I can compare it to the black, white, and green! I like Prorazo, but I'm also a bit of a Cella fella.

I agree. No oiliness, just all day moisturizing. And it smells good too Wink

I don't have a particularly coarse beard, and I love the stuff.  In fact, there's no reference to coarse beards on my bottle.  I wonder if that's market-specific labeling.  I bought my bottle from a U.S. online retailer IIRC.

In any event, my problem is that the alcohol or chemicals in my alcohol-based aftershaves irritates my palms to the extent that if I use one for several days in a row, I get what appear to be stigmata in the center of each palm, and no amount of washing and moisturizing after applying seems to help.  But that's for another thread.

This is interesting. Many people have skin sensitivity of one kind or another. I’d bet such a thread would stimulate some good conversation Wink

I had to look up "stigmata."
A halfway decent minister could easily turn your experience into a sermon, I'm sure.

I know it’s an old post, but here goes.

My two mainstay after shave splashes are Proraso Red & Proraso Green.

So much so, that I just bought 5 x 400 ml Red and 5 x 400 ml Green, since they were on sale for $20 for one 400 ml bottle.

I’m a fragrance head, so longevity of a scent in an after shave splash doesn’t matter one bit to me. I’m applying a real perfume/EDT anyway as the last step in my grooming ritual before going out the door.

But I love the Sandalwood scent of the Proraso Red and can’t understand they can make such a great scent for so cheap. It’s a mystery to me.

Wow! 10X400ml bottles of aftershave! That’s what I call a solid commitment purchase, Claus. We’ll doneSisi I share your appreciation of the Sandalwood splash. It was the first splash I purchased a backup bottle. As soon as I bought that second bottle I started trying other splashes, and as a result the spare sits in waiting.

My aftershave rotation is 11, including 2 balms, the rest are splashes. The mainstay is Fine’s Snake Bite. In the last two years  I’ve finished 2 bottles, am working through my third, and have 5 in reserve. Also loved is DRH Arlington, Swiss Pitralon and Pitralon Pure. I’m fortunate to have 2 backups of Swiss and 1 of Pure. And still the P-Red sits. I’ve taken to using it only in fall and winter..

Charlie, you need Snake Bite in 400ml bottles.

$20 for a 400ml bottle of Proraso Green or Red is an amazing bargain.  I like the Green and use it regularly.

Ricardo, at some point I may just buy some denatured alcohol and menthol crystals and experiment. Make my own 400ml supply!

I should try the P-Green splash again. When I bought a bottle some 2-3 years ago, I found it wasn’t the same scent as the cream. That put me off for some reason, so I PIFfed it to a pal and never tried it again. Maybe another trial is in order.

The Green Proraso AS splash is more complex than the green shaving cream & soap. They are almost strictly menthol with a bit eucalyptus while the AS splash is more eucalyptus and menthol mixed. That’s what my nose get from them at least.

I really love both the green and red Proraso AS splash - and I can’t seem to get tired of them.
The red lasts longer than the green, but neither are strong enough to overpower my fragrance du jour.

I also am a fan of the blue Floid, and I still have 350ml left of my 400 ml bottle of it, but not sure what to get when that’s done. Heard the Epsilon Blue was a good clone of it.
Myrsol blue is also close, but prefer my after shave splash in 400 ml bottles for some odd reason. I can just splash them on my face without thinking of how much I use, I guess.

Yeah. The deal was too good to pass on.
I’m still considering buying even more Proraso AS 400 ml bottles as long as they have stock left.

Claus, I agree with your assessment of the scent differences between the splash and the cream and soap. As I recall the Green splash’s scent was fleeting. And yes, the delicious Red definitely lasts longer. I couldn’t put it into a coherent statement the way you did. Your experience with scents / fragrances gives you a vast array of knowledge here. Respect the splash!

A lot of good quality after shaves are cheap in Europe, you can get a refill liter of Myrsol for round $20 ex-VAT, but unfortunately no good way to get it to the US.

I gave my father two full bottles of the 400 ml Proraso Green and 400 ml Proraso Red - he likes the greeen, but LOVES the red - amzing complexity of sandalwood in such a cheap after shave splash.

These two stay as my favourite AS splahes in my den.
