Hi Everyone

I was able to remove the old knot without breaking the handle !! yea !

Ok ... so what do i replace the knot with ?

I like Fan shape knot... I do bowl and face lather...

I found a 22mm Silvertip Grade A - FAN shape.....

Is there anyother Fan shape knot you can recommend for a old Simpsons X2 butterscotch handle ?

Thanks

bill

Personally, I like the TGN Finest more than any of their other offerings.

Some of the other grades are fine, but the Finest is really nice. Given some time to break in, it matches Simpsons 2-band......just at a lower density (also good, since it equals better flowthrough).

IMO for something as precious as a vintage catalin Simpson I'd go for a Shavemac D01 silvertip in whatever style you want..bulb, fan or extreme flat top.

I'd normally say that the DO1 was a good choice, but some people don't care for overstuffed knots (which all the DO1's are).

That does bring up a question: What are your personal tastes in knots, Bill? Flowthrough, density, softness, backbone, etc....these are all important considerations before making a decision - not just the manufacturer name.

I think I'd be partial to a Simpsons Best knot from Mark, to keep the brush "authentic."

And

The handle is aged and has some cracks...

I like to bowl and face lathering...

I have a few Simpsons best and a few supers ..... Like them both, also have a pure badger seems pretty tough. I hope that helps a little more.

Thanks

Bill

Hard to say .A silvertip grade A is a nice badger hair , but if you want to keep the brush as authentic as it could get , send it back to Simpson for a reknot. However , after the Simpson's price raised , it could be a little bit more expansive than buying a Silvertip Grade A knot.

A lot more expensive than buying a TGN ST A.

The Finest is the best bang for your dollar at TGN. The variance is too much for me to order sight unseen.

You can buy a fan shape knot from Frank Shaving now. You probably have to send him an email. Same as a TGN silvertip grade A. And by him I mean the guy who calls himself Frank, but since Chinese people don't actually have American names, they get to basically choose what name they want.

I'll cast my opinion for a TGN Finest. Once broken end, the Finest will rival most Simpson 2 band knots.

I find STA to be a bit too sctitchy for my perference.
