Much to my amazement, I'm running low on blades. Didn't think that day would actually occur.

So, time to order more.

I love my 7 o'clocks (as part of the rotation). I see the yellow box of 100 is around $22 (US) and the Super Platinums are about $50 (US). Both are stainless steel coated in platinum.

I have the green box at the moment. Not sure what I paid since it's been many years since I purchased it.

Anyone know the difference between the yellow box and the Super Platinums?

I’ve never seen ad copy for the Yellows that indicate any kind of coating, platinum or otherwise. Maybe they just make more of the Yellows than the other labels, and that helps to keep the price down? I doubt it’s that simple.

Interesting. I have never seen anywhere posted any reliable information regarding coating for a Gillette 7 O'clock SharpEdge.

Looking at a post on another forum showing images and composition of various blades under a SEM, I believe these blades are PTFE coated only.
I might be wrong.

Anyway, apart from the obvious difference (Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinum is twice as expensive as Gillette 7 O'clock SharpEdge), not much between the two. In my opinion the yellows are a tad sharper than the blacks, but the blacks last longer. Definitely not twice the longevity of a yellow.

Well when I was using modern blades the Yellow was one of my favorites and the old Dark Blue Super Platinum as well, if I remember correctly. I didn't care for them when they changed to the Black box. I think, but I'm far from sure but I think the Dark Blues were Russian made and the Black version from India. But don't know for sure.

The black Super Platinums are from India while the yellows are Russian. Both terrific blades. The yellows feel sharper while the blacks are a lot smoother. I prefer the blacks over the yellows.

Blacks over the greens all day. Black and Yellow both great. like @Razorman said the Blacks are a lot smoother, but i feel after sencond and third use they are about the same.

Every once in a while I shave a few times with my old favorite modern blades and other popular modern blades that weren't on my favorites list to see if anything has changed and to confirm or debunk my opinions about the differences between vintage and modern.  If I had to go back to modern blades that list would remain the same.
Gillette 7 O'clock Sharp Edge or Yellow
Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinum Dark Blue version if they're still made
Gillette Silver Blues
Both The Irridium Supers and Super Irridiums , same exact blade
Rapira Swedish Super Steels
