This little beauty really didn't need a lot to be brought back to life. I've had her for months but had other things going on. Finally got some free time and showed it some love. I will say I was shocked at the lack of knot in the design of this brush. I went to drill it out and found there was actually nothing to drill! It was pretty much just hair on plastic around 5 or so millimeters deep with a plastic post in the middle. I proceeded to clean out the rest of the knot then fabricated a base for the new knot. The rest is history!

I wound up going with a TGN 24mm fan set at a loft of 50mm. Plan to give it it's maiden voyage in the morning.

Yep, many of the vintage plastic ones are just hollow plastic, the Ever~Ready ones don't even have the post.

Nice looking brush you have there, good job!  Thumbsup

Thank you. I knew they were hollow but the lack of knot is what surprised me most. First one I've come across with that knot design.

Agreed. I have several brushes with TGN knots and all have been excellent in both looks and performance.

Seems like they didn't pre-make the knots, just glued in the tied tuft of hair, I've taken some out that just fell apart into loose hair. On others it looked like they put glue in the hole and put the hair in and made the knot in the handle. The Whiting Adams brushes they put the hair in the ferrule and pushed tapered wood pegs in the bottom to wedge the hair in place before putting the handle bottom on, you just never know what you're gonna find.

This one didn't have the pegs but the Kipco brushes I restored did. First brushes I've come across that had them. Since then it feels like every other brush has it lol. Here's the the one from the wood handle Kipco. Took the pic during it's resto.

Big one!

Here's a Rubberset with a peg that was pushed in from the top.

Three little pegs in the bottom of a Whiting Adams.

One peg in a smaller Whiting Adams.

Whiting Adams also used a cork spacer, maybe to seal moisture from the handle?

It's too bad they didn't do the pegs like a Holy Black soap. Have one a gold nugget or something lol. I did another Rubberset a while back that had 2 spots that I though were pegs but when drilling I found none. As full as the knot was I was shocked to see it. It took up a good bit of the knot.
