So far, I have been blown away by this combo. Not sure if it is the blade, razor, or both. This pairing is incredibly efficient, yet very smooth and comfortable. No nicks, irritation, nothing. I usually do 2 passes on my mustache area. 1 WTG and another sort of on a slant angle. With this combo, one does the job. A second pass feels like there is no blade in the razor. Smooth. I have already posted how I love this razor, and so far I really love this blade. I am using it in the Karve just for testing consistency to see if all shaves are equal. I can't wait to try the Personna Red in other razors, even more mild ones and see what the results are. I am at 2 shaves so far, we will see how many I can get before the shave quality degrades. I may not even go that far, sometimes I like to quit while I'm ahead and get out. Why wait for a bad shave? I will update this as I go and use the blade more in this razor and others.

Personna Platinum Chromes are soo smooth. I just love ‘em! I tend to ditch them after two shaves. Once in a while I’ll go for a third outing, but I usually regret that Dodgy
Are these red wrapped babies old stock Israelis, or the newer German made version?

I have to check the package, but they were advertised as German where I bought them. I knew them as Israeli, but didn't realize they had switched to Germany. I heard good things about the Israeli blades and was hoping these would be just as good. I have no idea how the Israeli's were, but these have been great so far.

I've never tried the German Personna, but I found the Israeli Personna to be excellent.

I never tried the Israeli, but so far I am very happy with the German ones. I think my next shave I will try it in a milder razor and see what my results are. So far, so good!!!

I believe Chazt would be the guy to ask about that. I have some Personna MedPreps he sent me to try. Not sure if I also got the platinum (Me thinks so), though I am quite sure I don't have the X series. Charlie has more experience with these than me.

From what I was able to find, they are by Personna and platinum coated.

Thanks for the update. I’ve been unaware of these. Perhaps they have been marketed to the barber industry?

I thought you might have been, I know you're a fan of some of the Personna blades. This was the first I'd heard of them.

Third Shave Impressions:

I used this blade again with my SS Alpha Outlaw 0.72 which is not as aggressive as the SB-E Karve plate. The shave again was smooth, comfortable, no redness, irritation during or after the shave. While I was able to only do a single pass on the moustache area with the Karve, I did need 2 with the Alpha but with excellent results. Doing my usual 2 passes and a third on my face/cheeks the results were good. The shave was close, not quite a BBS or close as the Karve, but still excellent. I believe DFS is what the kids are calling it these days. Laughing1  Obviously YMMV, but I would recommend this blade. I am going to see how far I can push it. So far with 3 shaves at about .13¢ per shave, it wouldn't hurt to quit while I am ahead and ditch the blade now.

The Israelis Reds are an old favorite, I bet I still have some stashed somewhere. I paired them with a Pre War Tech mostly, great shavers.

Nice. So far I have been very happy with them, they will likely be in a regular rotation. I have 2 other blades I have not tried yet that I bought to try.

Shave #4 Results And Mistakes:

I used the blade with my Blackland Dart this time around. I'm a little frustrated with this shave due to user error. It skews my scientifically accurate testing procedure. My first pass was brutal. It turns out the handle was not secured tight enough. I had done this with this razor before I believe. I'm frustrated even more so because I was aware when I put the blade in to secure the handle and even checked it. Somehow it must have loosened or I just didn't check well enough. Subsequent passes were smooth and efficient. Closer than the Alpha Outlaw and a BBS similar to the Karve SB-E. Some minor irritation for obvious reasons, but nothing outrageous and clearly not the blade. I am going to go for a fifth shave and see how it fares in the Karve again compared to the first 2 shaves.

Mike, not for nothing, but between you and me, I wouldn’t push the IP past 4 shaves.

It’s not worth it.

Shave #5 Results And Conclusion:

*Just a note*

All these shaves were done with 7 days of growth.

Against better advice, I went for the 5th shave. I had already kind of planned it and I'm sort of compulsive, so I had to do it. I agree with Charlie and Uncas. Pushing it past the 4th shave was just one too many. I used it with the Karve SB-E again. The shave wasn't terrible, but I should have quit while I was ahead. This shave wasn't as close as the first 2 with the Karve and the one with the Blackland Dart. It was closer to the shave I got with the Alpha Outlaw. Not a bad by any means, it just didn't get as close as the first 2. Not BBS. I also had some minor irritation on the neck near the jawline and a tad on my face/cheeks. Also a few minor nicks. My post shave seemed to help alleviate it.

All in all, I still like this blade, especially in my Karve. Generally, I go maybe 3-5 shaves depending on the blade. I could swear I read somewhere you shold chuck blades before you get the bad shave. Kind of a quit while you're ahead sentiment. This blade will more than likely get 3 shaves, maybe the fourth depending on the growth. As usual, YMMV.
