I soak the brushes in a mixture of 25% vinegar and water for 30 minutes, which helps dissolve the soap buildup. I then use Dawn dish soap to clean them thoroughly. If there is a buildup of soap where the bristles enter the handle, I use a soft child's toothbrush to gently clean the bristles in that area.

I let the brush I just used sit in warm water for a few hours after use occasionally dumping the dirty water and adding fresh water. I do this until the water remains clear after an extended soak. I will do the vinegar solution and shampoo once a year ok ok don't call the cops sometimes once every few years.
