I finally made it to my mid 60s, and either my technique has substantially improved over the last few months, or my whiskers have begun to grow more slowly. Lately when I do a standard two pass shave there’s little need to shave the following day. A one pass shave for that matter gets me DFS+. Only then are my whiskers long enough for a consecutive day’s shave. Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon?

Interesting.  I've experienced the exact opposite.  It's the reason I started looking around for a shaving method that would give me longer lasting results.  I used disposable razors and cartridges for most of my life,  but finally turned to DE razors to get rid of the afternoon/evening stubble.  You are a lucky man.  Maybe by the time you are my age you won't have to shave.  I'm 77.

But the thing is, I really enjoy shaving. I don’t want to slow or reduce my enjoyment.

I love the enthusiasm.  A silver lining is that your cost for blades should substantially decrease.

My understanding is that facial hair gets tougher as we age.

I think that is definitely true.

I'm late 60's and find it is easier and smoother for me to shave daily.  If I wait 2 or 3 days before shaving again my beard seems tougher and the shave is not as comfortable.

I’m in my early 50’s and my beard has definitely toughened up over the last decade.

Used to enjoy rocking 2-3 days stubble, now I feel like I need to shave every other day.

I am almost 70. The toughness of my beard seems to be happening due to changes in the growth pattern. It appears that there are more swirls of my beard as the map has shifted. So a pass in any direction would be with, across, and against the grain when shaving thru a swirl region. A 3 pass BBS lasts about 36 hours. A 2 pass DFS lasts 24 hours. I usually shave every other day unless I have a social or business meeting. The second day of shaving is generally a 2 pass shave. I do feel very uncomfortable going out of the house with stubble even if it is only grocery shopping.

During the worst of Covid when masks were de rigueur, my wife wondered why I would shave if no one will see my face.

Silly lady.
