This brush was my granddaddy's. He lived from 1892 - 1978. I'm not sure about the age but the old knot was shot!
The knot base is 18mm and the new one is a Best Badger from the Golden Nib. (I have not used it yet, so some loose hairs are visible, and no bloom)
Does anyone know what the handle material might be?

You must be absolutely thrilled to be able to use your grandfather’s brush.
Thanks very much for sharing and enjoy your shaves.
Thanks chazt. It is quite the thing for me. I debated several times about the re-knot since it is a smaller brush. Neither of my sons uses a brush and soap, so I doubt they care for this brush.

I used the TGN Best Badger knot today with FINE FRESH VETIVER tallow-based soap. It is a bit scritchy, but that's no doubt due to being new. Although being on the smaller side, it held soap and water well and did fine for my face. Nice bloom too. Photo of the bloom and size perspective.
