A little while ago, I found my Holy Grail Razor. Or more specifically, I found two. But to me the Grail wasn’t one razor (or two), but a type of razor. My Hole Grail Razor was the Schick Magazine Repeating Razor. And as discerning shavers know, there are three recognised types of the Schick Magazine Repeating Razor; the Type A, the Type B, and the Type C. Both of the ones I got so far are Type Bs. But today, thanks to Shaun, my collection contains a Schick Type A as well.

As can be seen, the razor will require a bit of tender loving care before I can take my stubble off with it. The blade is, I do believe, so far away from shave ready as it possible can be. But, I can promise y’all this, she will live again. And I will use her.

One thing I found interesting, comparing with the Type B, is the fact that the internal cavity is rotated slightly. I mean, just compare and contrast these two photos:
[Image: 2023-03-09-18.00.38-1024x610.jpg] [Image: 2023-02-04-13.48.49-867x1024.jpg]
On the Type A, the cavity is at an angle compared to the head of the razor. On the Type B, it is straight compared to the head. While it don’t mean much, it is interesting – and must have complicated the machining of the Type A somewhat.

So thanks to Shaun I now have two out of the three types of Schick Magazine Repeating Razor that were manufactured. I guess now I just have to be on the look out for a user grade Type C to round out my mini-collection of Holy Grails…

Thanks for sharing.  Any idea where and when they were manufactured?  I think I remember Schick has been sold at least once and was probably started in someone's basement.

Nice - good eye on catching the rotation of the "magazine" relative to the shaving head.  I never had noticed it, but went & dug mine out & they are oriented as your pair.  So I checked my C Type - not much of a surprise it is square to the shaving head like the B (both have square rather than the A's round barrel ..

Type A was manufactured 1926-27, Type B was made 1927-32. The Type C was made between 1933 and 1941, although the Type D Injector was introduced in 1935 and the Type E Injector the same year.

Schick started manufacturing in Jersey City in New Jersey in 1926, and moved manufacture to Bridgeport in Connecticut when the company was acquired by the Chain and Cable Company in 1928. The company was later bought up by Eversharp Inc in 1946, but that was well after the Schick Magazine Repeating Razors were out of production.

Fun information to know.  You are definitely the expert.  Thank you.

A toothbrush, dish-soap, and a little toothpaste did wonders on the brass and steel head Smile

Will you polish up the aluminium handle too?

Not sure. I would need to get some polishing compound for that.

I'll check the local car-hobbyist shop, they'll likely have something like that Smile

I've had good luck using the MAAS metal polish on old razors.

I've done well with MAAS on vintage nickel plated Gillettes, but don't recall ever trying it on aluminum.  Think my only Aluminum razor is a birth year Black Tip ..  I'm not sure that's the metal used on the Type A, but as always test in an inconspicuous place!  If MAAS is available to Norwegians even
