REVISON TO OP INCLUDING MORE PICS AND REVIEW

Hello Gents,

Just wanted to share a preliminary pic of my newly arrived, custom made Simpson Classic 2 w/Silver Tip (3 band badger) hair. The dims are; 24mm knot with a 45mm loft. I unfortunately am away on business and will not be able to properly review it until I get home tomorrow but thanks to my wife and daughters I was afforded this sneak peek. Can't wait to try this bad boy out.

Thanks to Mark @Simpson for his fantastic, personalized assistance with the creation of this brush.

Hello Gents,

Following up and as promised some more pics of my new custom Classic 2 and my review of this excellent brush.

First the review/observations...As requested, this brush is densely packed with Simpsons 3 Band Super (24mmknot), although it is engraved as Silvertip. This differs a bit from what I requested/ordered but like it nonetheless. It has a 45mm loft which still maintains it's backbone but the tips are sooooo soft.

I have several other Simpson 3 Bands (all chubbies) but this particular batch on this brush has even softer tips IMO. Great balance to this brush, and absolutely love the handle of the Classic series.

I test lathered the brush yesterday with some AoS Sandalwood (sample size) to wash out the "funk". Short soak time with warm water, place an almond sized dollop of the cream and BOOM the lather appeared. The feel on my hand was soft tipped but could feel a nice scrub (no scritch) to it. Shook it, few strokes on the towel and let it air dry.

This morning was it's first official day of duty and decided to test it against D.R. Harris Arlington soap in the beech bowl. Now, I own several Classics including the Manchurian Badger version and never had a problem lathering anything. My new Classic 2 did not disappoint and destroyed the puck in no time. Loaded it up for about 45 seconds and had more than enough soap for my 3 passes.

I face lather 100% of the time so I took the soap and brush to my face and began to lather with circular motions and then up and down paint strokes. The Classic again responded like his other brothers and was a joy to use with the combo strokes. The feel on the face is pure luxury, soft, pillowy feeling but has the back bone to be a great face lathering brush. I detected no scritch whatsoever. Although it is dense and short lofted, the flow through was great, no lather hogging at all and released the soap effortlessly.

Only negative of this brush is that it has shed about a dozen hairs in total between the test lather and today's shave. I know that is to be expected and has happened to just about every brush I own, hopefully this ends today and will not continue.

Overall I am very pleased with the outcome of this brush and know it will be another one that I will use @ home and will also accompany me on my many business trips.

Now on to the pics;
First set of pics are out of the box, bloom after test/wash lather. Second set is the brush soaking in my RB scuttle along with the soap and Slant. You will then see the brush once loaded, then after first pass lathering and finally in bloom after use.

Greg, That's a very fine looking brush. Mark has done you proud. He too made me a couple of custom brushes, a Keyhole KH4 & Beaufort B6 both in super they are my ToGo brushes.

Look forward to your reviews & more photographs please.

What are the differences between the Simspon Silvertip Badger hair and the Simpson Super badger hair? I am aware of only a few Simpson brushes that are labelled Silvertip Badger on the handle.

Mark says the silvertip is slightly softer in the tips.

I suspect it's the same hair used in Simpsons longest super knots, just in a smaller knot.

Good question, maybe Mark from Simpson could chime in but I was always under the impression that it is or similar to their 3 Band Badger. However, I must admit that this brush has the softest tips of any of the 3 Band Simpson Chubbies that I have.

OP updated and revised with more pics and review...enjoy!

I think you tried a Classic 2 in best badger. How would you compare it to this silvertip one?Same hair density and backbone?

I have seen that Simpson has made a special edition brush for the Italian wet shaving forum Il Rasoio.

It was a Duke 3 in butterscotch with Silvertip Badger.

Hello Teiste...indeed I've used and own the Classic 2 Best...it too is a great brush. Love that it is slightly scrubbier than the custom Silvertip version as the Best tips are a little scritchy. It has great backbone, splay/bloom, and as dense as it is, it too has great flow through just like this custom version.
