I've used quite a few & my favorite is, indisputably, the Merkur 45 Bakelite, despite its being light & non-metal.

There's something otherworldly about the shaves it delivers, a claim I've heard by many. And while mine just broke, I still couldn't recommend that damn thing any more highly.

I've a feeling the EJ89, which I've taken far too long to buy, will be similarly distinct.

When I used a DE it was the DE87. Same as the 89 but with the ivory colored handle.

My favorite is the Gillette Old Type set that I picked up a couple of months ago. Using this makes me wonder why they bothered making any changes to it:

Feather AS's with iKon bulldog handles are the day to day. Have to work a bit to get close, but close is the name of the game, and it does it well. HEFT ! I LIKE HEFT ! More heft, Mr. Scott !! Tames a feather blade like no other. Sharp works every time.

I really enjoy thick handled vintage Gillettes, like the Fatboy and Toggle.

Right now it is probably a tie between the Merkur Futur and a Gillette long comb NEW I had re-plated. The NEW was a fairly mild razor, but when it came back from plating the shave quality was altered and it's about equal to a Fatip in aggressiveness but slightly smoother. I have no idea what caused it unless it's the insanely thick plating..which ruined a Fatip I also had replated, the plating is so thick that I can't get my blades to slide over the head posts, it sure is beautiful though.

Tradere Standard Bar, Merkur Futur, Tradere Open Comb, Gillette FH Tech, and a Schick Krona. I have a Progress on the way and along with a Type E Schick Injector, that makes my 7 day set.

I can't pick just one. If it's in the cabinet and available for use, it's a favorite.

OK, favorite... that would be the one I'm using at that particular time. A vintage Gillette (OLD, NEW, Single Ring), Slim, or '11 R41 w/UFO handle.

Right now my favorite is the HD Rocket. After I got it I understood why people like the British made Gilletes so much, it has a smooth TTO, nice heft and feels more solid next to the superspeed.

I also like the fatboy, 40's superspeed. Haven't used an open comb yet but I have a feeling when I do it'll make the list too.

My favorite is the Gillette Slim, followed very closely by the Edwin Jagger DE89L.

Favorite DE razor flips back and forth between:

1) The *89 head: I rotate a pair; a Muhle R89 in rosegold and a EJ DE89 barley chrome

2) Feather AS-D1: not as flashy as the two above, but so solid and smooth. I have no problems getting DFS-to-BBS with this razor everytime. The only razor that I use on those occasions when I have to shave a second time in one day
