I like to give things multiple chances since over time my technique has improved and I'm always hopeful that I'll gain some bit of wisdom and be able to apply the techniques of a more experienced wet shaver.. When I first started out I bought a Futur and couldn't get a good shave with it so I sold it. I then a few months later bought another one and got decent shaves but couldn't get under my nose with it so it was sold as well. I then decided to try once more figuring since quite a few folks get amazing shaves with a Futur that maybe the third time was the charm and my technique was good now. Well it was. I've had 5 shaves or so with my third time Futur and each has been better than the last. I am able to get under my nose and knock on wood, haven't cut myself once changing the blade. Between the Futur and the Traderes I think I'm set on razors.

It's one of my top favorites, with it set on 3 I get the same quality shaves as the R41 but much smoother without that raw blade on skin feel you sometimes get with the R41. I'm trying out the Progress at the moment, figured I should at least give it a go. It's decent and I get nice shaves but I have to set it on 7 (5+2) to get the same shave as 3 on the Futur and it's not as smooth, but that could be the blade.

Love the Futur. To get under the nose, I set it at one, place it in the against the grain position under my nostril, and ever so slightly rock it up and back with a fixed wrist. Works like a charm without any cuts!

Thanks for sharing this. I've always thought of getting a Futur, but was concerned over the shape for the reasons that you described. I'll pick one up tomorrow and give it a try.

The Futur is a great shaver. Once you figure it out, it's a great performer. Even under the nose.

The Futur is a great razor. Glad you are finally enjoying it. I had the same issues with an R41. I eventually turned it from a face eater to a smooth shaver.

Good job and congrats.

I've been thinking about selling mine. Maybe I should give it another shot.

I too have come to like this razor after having been intimated by it. I sold many throughout the years but never used one until a few months ago. Always thought it was a bit too much on weight and size as well as aggressive shaving. I recommend it to anyone who might want to test the waters.
