It doesn't say anything about black; nor does the description/picture reflect any difference, save for free shipping, in this instance.

if you go to theenglishavingcompany homepage and examine the different EJ DE razors, the "bL" merely indicates a razor with an octagon handle, no matter the color or what said handle is made from. (ie, micarta, chrome, barley, gold, etc.) The DE89811bL is the current chrome-handle OCTAGON version. the DE89811-(was also a chrome octagon) was it's 2011 designation, the DE8911 was the smooth-round chrome handle in 2011. As of 2011 there were 4 DE89 chrome versions: DE8911-smooth round chrome handle/DE89L-lined chrome handle/DE89811-octagon/DE898BA11-barley chrome, and there were gold versions, and a few choices of different colored micarta handles, also. The DE8911"DB"5 is the current 2012 designation for the chrome ROUND-handled versions. Current production heads are the same now (DE8X) on all closed-comb razors-they are referred to as "new for 2012" razors. The "bL" simply differentiates current octagon handles from the round handled "dB" versions. You'll notice that the round handled razors come with boxes of blades, also, but none of the round handled razors are designated "bL". ALL the current razors come with a 5-pack of Derby blades, no matter which handle they have. Round handle razors are designated "dB" and lined-round handles are designated "LdB". The current entire line of DE razors is called the "DE8" series, irregardless of their numeric model name (DE86,DE89, DE83, DE87,etc).The added number and lettering nomenclature in the model number defines which handle style and material and plating they have. The interview with Neil Jagger intimated that the heads are now in-house by EJ. He also mentioned that there would be a new head(s) in the future, as well. See the man (Phil) to confirm all this, I just thought I'd pass along what I can see from the TESC page with EJ razors. I have a current DE8X headed razor (with Chatsworth Ivory handle) As far as the current DE8X head goes, I find it to be about medium aggressive. It's like shaving with an adjustable Gillette set on about #5 setting.
